I recently came across an article in the New York Times titled Beauty Unmasked for All to See. The article discusses how there is a growing trend for women to wear less makeup, or even go bare-faced. This new beauty standard might make some of us in the industry gasp, cringe, or cry, but I am here to tell you: don't get too worked up over this yet!

My immediate reaction to the article was "Oh no! What will happen to our industry?!" But after I let it sink in a bit, the more I thought about it, the more I realized this might actually work in our favor! Hear me out...

Even if mega-stars such as Beyonce and Gwenyth are proud to post photos sans makeup, often with the hashtag #nomakeup, they still want to put their best face forward. What does this mean? A HIGHER value and concentration on SKIN CARE!

Think about it. Our clients, even when they were covering their skin with layer upon layer of makeup, were concerned regarding how their skin looked. If they are now baring all, they will be even more concerned about how their skin looks!

All clients want the same basic thing. They want their skin to look healthy, glowing, tight, and young! Estheticians, they look to you to provide this. And now, if they are going to be leaving their makeup behind, who else would they look for to help than you?

This is the time for estheticians everywhere to start marketing towards this fresh-faced, clean and scrubbed look....offering facial polishes, tightening masks, and showing clients how regular visits and the right at-home care will keep their skin glowing so they won't WANT to cover it up!
