Dare To Be Bare! - Skin Care Tips for Your Best Waxing Results

Waxing is huge this time of year and you want to make sure that you are doing all the necessary prepping and skin care before and after all your waxing services for the perfect wax!

First, you want to make sure the skin is clean. When a client comes in with oil, sweat, and bacteria on their skin, without proper sanitation, the client can easily break out after waxing and the end result will not be as successful. Preparation is simple. A great product to use would be the Cirepil Blue Lotion. This lotion has excellent cleansing properties due to its low alcohol content (9%), and it leaves the skin with a pleasant, comfortable feeling. After cleansing the skin, the Cirepil Pre-Depilatory Oil is a great product to use, as it will condition the skin and create a protective barrier to ensure wax adheres to the hair and not the skin.

Another great item to use during the prepping stage would be the Relax & Wax NO Scream Cream. Your clients will want to apply this cream 30-45 minutes prior to the waxing service, making NO Scream Cream the perfect retail item to sell to all of your regular waxing clients! The No Scream Cream eases the discomfort of waxing as much as 50-90% and will not interfere with standard wax formulas.

CND VINYLUX Polish Review & Troubleshooting

I have been vacillating on whether or not to post my review on this polish.  I had very high hopes for Vinylux.  The color selection is beautiful, and the application was a breeze, but 11 hours after I shot these photos of my manicure I noticed a hole in one of my nails. It appeared that I brushed against something and it took a chunk clean out of my polish, there was just a hole in the middle of my nail polish. We were shopping at Home Depot that day for plants, so maybe it got banged up there? Either way, after potting one plant and doing some very light gardening, the polish on my thumbs had receded - badly.

My Vinylux manicure was so banged up after only 24 hours that I removed it!  All the girls here at Pure Spa have been using several different colors, and they all have had different experiences to report. The bottom line is the same with any manicure; if you are rough on your hands - expect a roughed up manicure, even with Vinylux in my opinion. This is only to put expectations into perspective as some clients thought this was going to be a gel like wear polish... when in fact it is just a polish. Now, I want to point out some useful tips that I think will be helpful for maximizing Vinylux  polish applications & success.

Don't lay it on too thick!

Troubleshooting VINYLUX:

1) No Basecoat, no exceptions.  I know of some die hard Rejuvacote users that want to continue using this treatment under Vinylux. NO BASE COAT - no exceptions.  A base coat will negate the performance of Vinylux and the adhesives that are in the polish color.

2) Follow CND's P.E.P protocol*.  What is P.E.P?:

P-erform Mini Manicure = Removing the Cuticle off the nail plate
E-liminate Surface Contaminants = ScrubFresh
P-Purify Nail Plate = ScrubFresh

* Anyone I spoke to that had problems with Vinylux longevity did NOT follow the PEP step!

Always cap the edges!

3) Cap the free edge. This helps in ANY manicure. But especially since Vinylux is being marketed to consumers, they will need to know that this step helps chips and polish receding.

4) Not too thick. Apply two, controlled coats - don't cake it on. My longest lasting manicures are meticulously applied by my manicurist using controlled, thin strokes of polish. I tend to go a little thick on my applications, which most likely led to chipping - like in this case.

5) Stay dry and let it dry. I once read it is best not to get your nails wet for at least 5 hours after a manicure. So get your Purell handy and leave your nails alone to cure. Drying time for Vinylux is approx. 10 minutes.

Follow these steps and you will get a great 7 days out of your Vinylux polish.
