Tan Better - Helpful Tanning Tips for Spray Tan Technicians

Learn from the best... read this blog!
I was recently out west and had a very pricey tan with a famed airbrush guru and spray tanner to the stars. I was so curious to see what a $130 spray tan would be like, what could be different? The fact is, the details make all the difference in the world. Not only was my airbrush tech extremely professional, her room was immaculate and she had every detailed worked out to ensure me (and all her rich and famous clients) left flawlessly bronzed and beautified. I will share a few tips that I observed.

Lower stool all the way.
1) Everyone knows it's important not to get the bottoms of the clients' feet tan. She had me stand on a warm, wet towel that was on top of a dry, plush towel. As a turned and twirled during the tanning process, my feet cleaned themselves!

2) Legs, feet, ankles are tricky. Every spray tan tech knows that legs, feet and ankles can be a challenge. With every body type different, lighting can sometimes conceal areas that were missed by the spray gun. Not here. My tech placed each leg (one at a time of coarse) on a swivel, adjustable stool ,covered by a soft, clean towel.

She gently and slowly swiveled each leg 180 degrees to make sure she covered every nook and cranny with tanning mist and made sure there was a seamless, flawless transition from my ankle to my toes, then switched legs. It was like decorating a cake! She sat comfortably in a stylists stool, rolling around my body to make sure she could see me from low and high angles.

Tighten Trigger for
More Precise Tanning
Results!
3) The spray gun trigger handle was tightened for very little over spray and precise and accurate spraying allowing her superior control over the placement of tanning solution with the gun. Apollo guns (my favorite to spray tan with), have an adjustable knob on the back that allows techs to loosen or tighten the throw of the trigger. The tighter the trigger, the more control you will have when you're spray tanning a client. This technique is especially helpful with with thick tanning solutions like ours. This also helps control over-spray in your room. This should be used in conjunction with an Apollo turbine.

4) Ventilation. Part of keeping a nice, clean room is great ventilation.  This pro had a custom built extraction system in her spa. There are many options out there for clearing the air of your spray tan room. Be sure to find one that will cover your room's size.

Cellulite Massage - Break Through The Lumps

This is my long overdue, RAVE review of the BelleCore Honey Belle and Baby Belle body Massagers / Body Buffers.
I am AMAZED at
The difference HoneyBelle has
Made in my shape!

I have always been a believer in deep tissue massage for stubborn areas... the only problem is that they are exhausting and difficult to perform on yourself.  So when I first saw the HoneyBelle at Neiman Marcus years ago, I was intrigued and purchased the smaller sized BabyBelle to test drive.

I immediately noticed the unit helps promote circulation and that after a few days of use there was a 'smoothing' effect taking place on the surface of my thighs, backs of legs and arms.  I also noticed it helped reduce my Edema after long flights and did soften up the stubborn tissue in the "saddle bag" area of my thighs where I felt like I had a build up of fluid and toxins (too many french fries and Chardonnay). The baby unit was doing a good job at toning the look of my skin, yet it wasn't until I tried the big daddy, (the HoneyBelle), that I really saw a huge difference in my lumps, bumps and curves.

Now, just like with exercise, the key to results is consistency. You're supposed to use the BelleCore Body Buffer twice a day every day for approximately 30 days - but many people see results in just the first week. I also have been using Clarins Body Shaping Cream after my HoneyBelle sessions and think it helps a ton!

Step Up Cellulite Massages
With BodyBelle
BelleCore Body Buffers are not just for cellulite, there a lots of benefits!

- Warms & Soothes Muscles Pre and Post-Training
- Exfoliates Skin To A Silky Smoothness
- Improves Circulation - Reducing Swelling, Helps Speed Recovery
- Provides A Relaxing, Deep-Tissue Massage... Anytime, Anywhere

For me, this would be an EXCELLENT add-on treatment for Day Spa services and massages. Add on a 15 to 30 minute BelleCore massage to any spa service and clients will be HOOKED! This would also be a great tool to incorporate into slimming spa treatments and lymphatic massages as well. You can even retail them their own unit for home use!  There is nothing else like these units on the market that I have seen. They are excellent tools that really offer up results - and they are really comfortable to handle and  easy to use.

Shipping Next Week: Mancine Wax in 14oz Jars!

Here at Pure Spa Direct, we have been so excited to be offering Mancine Wax again! Many of Mancine's loyal customers in the United States have been thrilled to have access to their favorite wax again, and many of our other wax clients have tried (and loved!) this wax.

The biggest complaint we heard, however, is "The jar is too big - it doesn't fit in my warmer!" And for months, we have been suggesting warmers the large Australia containers fit in, as well as making suggestions for microwaving the jar and pouring into smaller tins....but that is such a pain!

Well, I have phenomenal news for any of you who wanted to try the Amazing Mancine Wax, but did not want to commit to a 2.2 lb container! We are now offering Mancine's most popular strip waxes in 14 oz cans, which fit most standard wax warmers!

14 Oz Mancine Wax Available:

While you are trying new things, you should also check out the Mancine Ingrown(Zone) products...they are hands-down, the best ingrown treatments I have ever tried!

Amber Solo All-In-One Gel Polish: Application Instructions and Tips!

The newest nail craze is here - the brand new Amber Solo All-in-One Gel Polish! The first of its kind on the market, Amber Solo is a gel polish base coat, color, and top coat, all in ONE bottle! Best part is, it cures in ANY LED or UV nail lamp, and lasts 2+ weeks. WOW!

Any nail salon already performing gel polish manicures should definitely keep reading! Amber Solo is going to change the game...again!

By incorporating the base and top coats into the color coat step, your treatment time is cut by 2/3rds! What does that mean for the salon? Less time per treatment, equating to more treatments per day....which means more profit for your business! What does that mean for the client? Less time at your table, for the same great treatment! It is a win-win situation!

Nail Preparation
  1. Push back and trim cuticles.
  2. Trim and file nail to desired length and shape
  3. Lightly buff nail bed to remove all shine from nail.
  4. Apply 70% alcohol to lint-free pad, and wipe each nail to remove any oil or residue.
PRO TIP: Do NOT perform a wet manicure prior to applying Amber Solo, and be sure to remove any and all residue from each nail. Your goal is to create a smooth nail surface to apply Amber Solo.

Solo Application
  1. Select your Solo Color of choice. To ensure even application, shake bottle well. PRO TIP: Product will be thicker than traditional gel polishes - this is normal, since the base coat and top coat are built in! Also, the brush is more narrow than traditional polish brushes - this is to provide the technician with more control over application.
  2. Apply a thin coat of Solo to nails, making sure to cap the free edge. Cure 30 seconds in LED light.
  3. Cap free edges ONLY. Cure 30 seconds in LED light.
  4. Apply second coat of Solo. Cure 30 seconds in LED light.
  5. Remove tacky layer using one of the following methods:
    1. Spray or wipe each nail with 70% alcohol. PRO TIP: Using an alcohol higher than 70% will result in a duller finish. Therefore, ONLY use 70% alcohol!
    2. Apply Amber Hand and Foot Recovery (or any luxurious hand cream!) to the hands, and gently massage into the hands and nails. The massage will result in the removal of the tacky layer.

Important Notes to Remember When Using Amber Solo:
  • The Solo formula is SELF-LEVELING - meaning the technicians job is to ensure even application on the nails, taking care to apply as close to the cuticle and side walls as possible, without getting Solo on the skin. If the color looks streaky, ITS OK - the self-leveling formula will blend out any streaks!
  • Due to the thickness of this product, the gel polish tends to pull back as soon as it is exposed to air. If you do not work quickly enough, you may experience the polish "pulling back" from the edges of the nail. If you find this is happening, another option is to work closely with the lamp, applying Solo to 2 or 3 fingers at a time. While those fingers are curing, you can apply to the same 2 or 3 fingers on the other hands. Going back and forth will help you avoid pull back.
