Psoriasis and You

August is Psoriasis awareness month, a perfect time to market your services to a specific clientele. It may sound odd, but there may be people out there unaware of how you can help them deal with their Psoriasis. You have an amazing opportunity to create a life long relationship with a group of people who will be thankful for your expertise and relief!

Psoriasis can be a painful and embarrassing for those who suffer from it. Many may not even realize how a trip to the spa can benefit them.  To start, a relaxing day at the spa is something everyone can and should benefit from.  Advertising how you can help them mentally AND physically is key.

Mud treatments are excellent for those who suffer from psoriasis. The minerals in the mud can be  soothing on sensitive skin. Something like the Raw Alaska Glacial Mineral Mud is an excellent choice for those with skin conditions such as psoriasis. It is the most mineral rich mud on the market today. It is gentle and hydrating yet it still draws impurities out of the skin - an amazing combination for sensitive skin! If you don't offer any mud treatments, August is a great time to add it to your facial and body treatment menu! Be sure to have retail items made with clients with issues like psoriasis and roseacia in mind like Alchimie Forever. Every product in this line was created for these clients!

Massage is also an excellent way to help relieve mental and physical stress psoriasis sufferers may deal with. Using a gentle hydrating base like shea butter is popular for psoriasis clients.

Dead Sea minerals have been found to be beneficial as well. A dead sea salt or mud in a body wrap is a great menu option to feature in August! As always, be sure to have supporting retail items available to show the client after their treatment!

Pick one or two services to market specifically to psoriasis suffers. you may be surprised at the life long relationships created!

Pamper Your Clients with a Warm Honey Manicure!

I love seeing different and unique menu options in spas and salons. The staples obviously are great but having a few different options that clients won't expect is a great way to keep them interested - and telling their friends.

Here is one I came across while reading something recently that would be great going into the winter months. It's excellent for dry and overworked hands!

Warm Honey Manicure (treatment takes about 45 minutes)
*Prepare the treatment prior to the client's arrival*

Soak
In a manicure bowl, stir together 1/2 teaspoon of Honey Powder with 1 cup of warm water and 4 drops of tangerine essential oil.

Scrub
In a rubber mixing bowl, combine 2 teaspoons of Organic Sucanat Sugar, 1/4 teaspoon Clove Powder and 1/4 teaspoon Ginger Root Powder. Add in 2 teaspoons Organic Sunflower Carrier Oil and 4 drops tangerine essential oil. Mix well and place into a mud warmer or hot towel cabinet.

Masque
Mix together 2 tablespoons White Clay Powder, 1 teaspoon Honey Powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of Clove Powder. Add in 2 teaspoons of warm water and 4 drops of tangerine essential oil. Mix well and place into a mud warmer or hot towel cabinet.

Moisturizer-
In a rubber mixing bowl, combine 1 teaspoon whipped shea butter and 3 drops tangerine essential oil. Mix well and place into a mud warmer or hot towel cabinet.

After cleansing the hands, allow clients to soak for 2-5 minutes. Apply the scrub to one hand and arm up to the elbow. Pay extra attention to the elbows and palms while massaging the scrub into the skin. Remove excess scrub with warm damp towels and repeat on the other arm.

Apply the masque to the hands and arms up to the elbow. Place the clients hands in a liner and into electric mitts and leave on for 5-7 minutes. Remove the mitts, cut the tips of the liner off so you can prep the nails while having the masque on the client to enhance the softening! Once you've prepped the nails, remove the liners and any excess masque. Massage the moisturizer into the skin and finish the nails as you normally would.

Make the experience extra special by offering honey flavored treats and herbal teas!

A Carrot A Day Keeps The Clients Seeing Results!

We've all heard at some point in our lives that eating carrots is beneficial to our eyes. What you may not have heard is that carrots are also excellent for your skin!

Carrots contain beta-carotene, a form of vitamin A that gives carrots it's orange color. Beta-carotene has excellent antioxidant properties, has been shown to be effective in anti-aging treatments and even out the appearance of the skin making it awesome for dry and mature skin.

You can utilize carrots benefits in your treatments in a variety of ways to keep it fresh and exciting for your clients. You can use carrot seed oil to make your own alternative moisturizing treatment by adding 2 drops of carrot seed oil and  2 drops geranium oil to a primrose carrier oil. You can change up what you mix the carrot seed oil with...it blends well with citrus oils as well as spice oils such as cedarwood.

You can also make your own fresh scrubs, masks and body treatments with carrot powder. Again, you can customize each treatment with your favorite (or your client's) essential oil.

You can have orange themed package complete with carrot treatments, orange headbands, orange robes, carrot sticks, and orange teas!

Incorporating Vanilla Products Into Your Services

In just a few weeks, your clients will have had more than their fill of pumpkin-related services, so now is the time to start planning on the next phase of holiday season treatment options.  Most salons and spas like to stick with pumpkin, apple and peppermint through the end of December, however, a delicious way to shake up the status quo is to add Vanilla treatments to your service options.

When Your Skin Gets a COLD too! Spa Treatments to Comfort Skin

If having a cold is not miserable enough, we have to contend with our skin getting sick too.  It never fails to happen to me! My skin goes haywire, and I can usually tell when I am starting to get sick by how my skin is behaving.

Clues of Seasonal Cold SKIN Blues:
- Zits gone wild. New shapes, sizes and colors cropping up all the face.
Restore Your Skin's
Healthy Appearance
After a NASTY cold!
- Over dryness from nasal sprays, decongestants, antihistamines
- Puffy and droopy eyes and cheeks that make me look like a morphed former version of myself.
- Watery, runny eyes that burn with every blink.

And these symptoms can stick around for about a week or so AFTER the cold has passed. It can be kind of depressing to feel better and look in the mirror and see your skin didn't get the memo!  So I wanted to share some products that you can use in your professional Facial Treatments on your clients this cold season (once they are well of course).

BEST Bets for De-Puffing, Hydrating & Rejuvenating:

Cucumber Gel Mask by Amber: Has the ability to enhance water retention in tissue allowing the epidermis to achieve greater suppleness. With the combination of cucumber extract, allantoin and aloe vera this product is effective in soothing irritated skin.

Elasto-Gel Sinus Mask: I'm obsessed with this mask! It can be used hot or cold (I like it warm - a few seconds in the microwave) and is perfect for relief of pain and swelling of superficial soft tissue in the eye, nose and sinus area. Wrap with a thin layer facial diaper or disposable soft towel. Cover is removable for washing too.

Lymphatic Drainage - The IONTO Skin Regulator:

- Four areas that benefit from the skin regulator:
- Nerves, blood and lymph vessels: relieves blockage and removes waste and toxins via blood and lymph drainage.
- Connective tissue: balances the flow and activates the metabolism at the cellular level.
- Epidermis: increases absorption of active substances.
- Muscles: loosens tension.

Ahhhhhh... relief & results!
