New Vegan Offerings for Your Spa!

Do you have animal loving vegan clients who are extremely conscientious towards their beliefs? Vegans are not only concerned about the the food they put into their mouths - product ingredients are equally as important! As an animal lover and vegetarian, I definitely believe in the importance of vegan, cruelty-free products. There is a huge market for it as well! Veganism and the Animal Rights Movement in general are most certainly peaking, and more and more companies are incorporating vegan products into their lines.

Is your spa vegan friendly? Why not incorporate products into your spa for your animal loving clients?! I have just the line for you! Here at Pure Spa Direct, we just got in Sacred Earth products that are vegan (and I couldn't be more excited)! Check them out below!

Our SacredEarth Botanicals' Massage Lotion is light, vegan, and provides excellent absorption! It is rich in organic polyunsaturated oils and organic botanical extracts for a calming, therapeutic experience for the client. Unscented, hypo-allergenic, vegan.. your clients are going to love it! The best part is that it comes in a retail size that your clients can take home with them.

A great product you can retail to your clients is Sacred Earth's Organic Arnica Body Salve! They are super adorable and small enough to place in a purse or a pocket. These body salves provide an easy, on-the-go aid for continued therapy in the comfort of their own home!

Why not add a Vegan Pedicure to your spa menu?! The Sacred Earth Botanicals Foot Cream was formulated to bring relief to dry and achy feet and legs by increasing blood flow and promoting healing using a custom blend of organic essential oils and extracts. The peppermint scent is very therapeutic and soothing as well.

SacredEarth Botanicals Certified Organic Herbal Infusions have actually been handcrafted using the cold infusion method. The process takes organically grown herbal material and soaks them in organic sunflower oil. The blend then sits for months at a time, allowing for the release of it's therapeutic constituents to be suspended in the oil. You can enhance your client's experience with these soothing aromas! They are certified organic and, of course, vegan!

Essential Oils - With an Emphasis on Essential!

Ah, essential oils - probably one of my favorite spa products out there! But what makes them so great? I love how each individual oil can be used for various soothing and supposedly curative effects. While essential oils are "essential" in the sole reason that they contain the "essence" of the plant's fragrance of which they're derived from, it is important to note that different oils have different properties. Certain oils are essential for various types of aliments! Do you have enough essentials for all types of clients, especially those who receive deep tissue massages? If not, I've got you covered. See below for what I mean, and why these "essential" oils take on a whole new meaning!

Most your clients probably sit throughout the day and then cram their exercise into one quick session. This can cause excess strain on their muscles, causing spasms and inflammation. While massages definitely help to ease the pain, certain essential oils can facilitate healing as well according to an article I recently read.

Reduce Inflammation

We carry any essential oil you might need here at Pure Spa Direct. However, some are more popular than others due to their aroma and abilities to aid in soothing inflamed muscles. Peppermint is great for your clients with inflamed and overheated muscles, as it has a cooling effect. Rosemary also reduces inflammation due to its astringent properties. This can help stimulate circulation and increase blood flow to the muscles, bringing down inflammation. We have a variety of peppermint and rosemary essential oils to choose from!

Warm Muscles

While peppermint has a cooling effect, other oils have a heating effect. Juniper and ginger oils tend to warm overworked muscles. They contain natural analgesics which can help to block pain - perfect for your clients who are athletes and looking for a deep tissue massage!

Relax Muscles

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? It's a good chances that your clients who are stressed out have tighter muscles. Both chamomile and lavender essential oils can help calm down your clients who are extra stressed and hold tension in their muscles. They are personally my favorite, as I love their scent.

Click here to see all of our essential oils, and stock up on what your missing to help your clients in need. They are also perfect for retailing to your clients after each session!

Cupping Therapy

If you're considering adding another alternative treatment to your business, the ancient art of Cupping Therapy is one that has been gaining popularity and recognition within the past year or so.

What exactly is cupping?!

Cupping is a form of alternative therapy in which cups are placed on the skin, particularly the back, or other areas of pain to create suction. It is actually an ancient form of healing that dates all the way back to Egyptian, Chinese, as well as Middle Eastern cultures. Although it's not too widely recognized in our Western Culture yet, it is definitely a therapy that is gaining more and more popularity within this year alone! It is especially beneficial to your clients who are looking for ways to heal pain naturally, without any use of medication.

How does it work?!

There are actually three types of cupping that are commonly practiced:

Dry Cupping
Dry cupping uses only the suction of the cups for treatment purposes. The suction creates a small amount of pressure in the back, which helps to stabilize blood flow which in turn, is said to believe promote the healing of various aliments.

Wet Cupping
During wet cupping, a suction is created using a cup that is left in place for about three minutes. The cup is then removed and then a small scalpel is used to make superficial skin incisions. A very minute quantity of blood is then drawn out. The reason being is that the toxins in the body are drawn out from the blood.

Fire Cupping
Fire Cupping is when heat is applied to the cups to maximize blood circulation. By adding fire to the inside of the cup, oxygen is removed and there is a high pressure within the suction cup.

This treatment offers a variety of benefits for your clients.

The British Cupping Society says cupping therapy can treat a variety of conditions. This has not been backed up by studies, however, according to WebMD, cupping therapy could potentially be used to treat*:

- Blood disorders such as anemia and hemophilia
- Rheumatic diseases such as arthritis and fibromyalgia
- Fertility and gynecological disorders
- Skin problems such as eczema and acne
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Migraine
- Anxiety and depression
- Bronchial congestion caused by allergies and asthma
- Varicose veins

Beat Those Winter Blues With Massage!

With the holiday stresses (there are too many to list!), colder weather or if you're in a warmer climate, the days becoming dark so early....people tend to feel more run down. If you're in a snowy climate add in the aches and pains from shoveling!

Massage therapy is a sure fire way to combat the winter blues no matter where you are. The relaxing effect is a sure fire stress reliever  especially if you're utilizing relaxation or calming lotions or oils. Add in some calming essential oils, cushy table warmers (the Deluxe Table Warmer Samadhi-Pro by EarthLite is a best seller!), herbal eye pads and relaxing sounds like a water feature and your clients will be in pure bliss!

For those clients with extra aches and pains from shoveling or running around shopping and going to holiday parties, have some muscle relief items like biofreeze or tiger balm on hand. Great to use on sore spots at the end of the treatment but also a great retail item for use in between treatments.

Almost everyone experiences some type of winter stress, be sure to advertise how you can help!

Pain In The Neck...Massage Therapy News For Chronic Neck Pain

Multiple, hour long sessions every week are more effective
in treating chronic neck pain than shorter or less frequent sessions
It's no secret that massage therapy is highly effective in the management of chronic pain. Are your client's coming in for long enough sessions frequently enough to gain the most benefit?

I was just reading a study done by the Annals Of Family Medicine that concluded multiple, hour long sessions every week are more effective in treating chronic neck pain than shorter or less frequent sessions. According the the Annals Of Family Medicine, neck pain is the 8th leading cause of disability in America and the 4th worldwide!

Do you find a majority of your clients coming in specifically for neck pain, or asking for extra attention on their neck? As with most things, prevention is key. Educating your clients on stretching, awareness of proper posture and of course regular massage therapy will ease their pain. Educating them on the effectiveness of weekly hour long sessions for chronic pain is huge. Within a few short weeks, clients who usually come in monthly or every few months should notice a decrease in their daily pain and hopefully, increased range of motion in their neck (generally speaking, not taking into effect specific injuries/issues).

As always, having effective items for your clients to use at home will aid in the pain relief (and endear them to you even more!)

Here are a few of our massage therapists top picks:

Biofreeze (especially the roll on...clients can take it with them for easy application wherever they go!)

What's That You Hear? Ultrasounds!!!!

If you haven't experienced an ultrasound treatment, you must go this week and have a treatment done. Why should you as a business owner, technician or office worker rush out to get one? Aside from immediate relief of any pain you may be experiencing ( I don't know anyone who has zero muscle pain) you will see first hand how a small unit can bring in money.

Many people think of ultrasound as a physical therapy tool or simply of the picture an expectant parent shows off. While both are accurate, those aren't the only people who can benefit from it

My chiropractor has a unit that has both the ultrasound and the stim which I literally crave every week. It helps alleviate my neck pain and feels wonderful.

From a business standpoint, the units are cost effective and can bring in a whole new stream of business.
From a therapist/technician standpoint, it is an easy treatment to perform. The unit does the work and you check in with the client about the pressure and the intensity.
From a client standpoint, there's no downside. It is effective and feels good.
It's a winning combination all around.

There are different units available, here are a few:

Amrex U/20l Portable Ultrasound
Chattanooga Intelect Transport Ultrasound Unit
Intelect Legend Ultrasound

You do need to use a gel while performing the treatment, which you can look at here:

Ultrasound Gel

My chiropractor always ends the ultrasound by putting one of my all time favorite products on...

Biofreeze

If you are looking to add a new treatment that is not difficult to perform, make your clients happy and bring in cash flow...ultrasound is worth checking out.
