Snail Facials....No, Seriously!

Yes, you read that correct! SNAIL FACIALS! And it is as literal as it sounds!

We are always hearing about interesting beauty treatments that are being offered over in Japan, but this new one that includes a little creature crawling around on your face? Sounds pretty icky to me! However, according to the Spa in Tokyo, the snails' mucus contains properties to help recover the skin cells on the face. This includes power proteins, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid - which helps retain moisture, ease inflammation, and remove dead skin cells.

But don't go just searching for any snails to bring into your spa! These snails are bought from an organic farm and fed a specific diet of carrots, spinach and Swiss chard. The treatment lasts 60 minutes. After washing the face, a therapist places the snails on the skin and then follows with massages, electrical pulse machines and creams which have snail mucus in them.

It's All About The Money! - Retailing in Your Spa/Salon

Billions of dollars are spent on beauty and self-care products every year! There is huge income potential if you are offering retail items. Depending on the type of spa or salon, retail should account for 30 to 50% of your net profit.

You don't necessarily need to be a salesperson to retail products in your spa - you really just need to be able make honest recommendations. The best and easiest way to get your retail products moving, is to actually be using them on your clients during services! You can explain the products and their benefits, while educating your client on the importance of at home care also. If your client is happy with the service and products you used, they are more likely to want to purchase these products for continued use at home, in-between services.

Using the products yourself is also a good idea, so if you get compliments on something like your glowing complexion, you can offer a service AND suggest an item you just so happen to be selling at your spa! For example, if you offer make-up applications and you are retailing the cosmetic products you use on clients, they are easily going to want to purchase items to take with them for touch-ups! ACID & It's Many Benefits!


Acid can be found in many places all around us. Of course you have the acid in fruit we eat every day - like citric acid, and we all wear our acid washed jeans, but more importantly acid is also commonly found in the "Spa World," because of the many benefits it has for our skin!
