Get Salty! Salt Stone Massages

Getting a hot stone massage makes many instantly think relaxing thoughts, with the occasional “oooh” or “aaah” while they’re thinking. Why not take the massage to the next level with salt stones?

Salt crystals from an ancient primal sea beneath the Himalayan Mountains are hand-carved into massage stones that gently soothe away an accumulation of stress, tension and pollutants.Salt therapy in general is still trending, with more and more businesses adding in various treatments, salt beds or tables, add on services and even retailing salt lamps for home use.

The salt stones are easy to use, portable and pay for themselves in no time at all!

For inquiring minds who have questions, here are a few quick tips:

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do you heat the stones?
A: Any dry heat source, heating pad, toaster oven, skillet, light bulb, and of course our aesthetically pleasing, air purifying salt stone warmer lamp, or salt bowl lamp. We do not recommend heating in the microwave.

Q: How do you clean the stones?
A: Ultimately salt is antimicrobial, and should not require any disinfecting. Since we cannot guarantee this, we recommend cleaning the stones this way: After each use you can take a spray bottle and make a solution of thyme and tea tree oil and spray the stones and dry them immediately. At the end of the day, you can take a bottle of warm or hot water and put a couple of tablespoons of white vinegar in it with 10 drops of tea tree oil. You then dip the stone and swish it around. You can leave it in a few seconds, but any length of time will cause the stone to disintegrate. Dry the stone immediately, put it back on it's heat source to dry better and further sanitize.

Q: How long do they last?
A: The stones last indefinitely, as long as they are kept dry. When exposed to moisture they will pit and sometimes dissolve depending on how much moisture. When they get rough you can sand them with sand paper to smooth them. When used with water for salt scrub and lymphatic drainage, they will need to be replaced from time to time.

Q: Can you use them with lotion or oil?
A: We do not recommend using with oil. It is difficult to clean and clogs the salt. We recommend using Jojoba or Coconut oil. These two oils do not get rancid or degrade the salt. Depending on the skin you can use the stones dry as well.

Q: Do you have to heat the stones?
A: The stones have a therapeutic effect warm or cold. When warmed, the negative ion potential of the stone is ignited.

Slim Down As The Year Winds Down

I still cannot believe we're already into October, this year is flying by!

Detox and slimming treatments are always trending, however the end of the year always shows a big push in detox services. Clients want to look their absolute best for events, parties and reunions.

If you're looking to add something new to your body wraps, here is an extremely profitable recipe idea, to have your clients feeling bright and tight!

Slim It Down!

In large rubber mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup of green tea powder with 1 teaspoon of borage oil. After mixing well, add in 3/4 cup of dead sea mud and 2 teaspoons of grapeseed oil. Mix this all up well, and place the bowl in a mud warmer, hot towel cabinet or even a large stainless bowl filled with hot water. You want the mixture to be warm when applying to the client.

Perform the body wrap as you normally would, along with any add ons like dry brushing, Eco Fin or a scalp massage. Add on services are a great way to further boost profits and increase clients satisfaction!

Menu Spotlight: Back Acne Be Gone!!!

Since this is the season of dare to bare, people want their skin as flawless as possible without having to spend a fortune. If you have clients with back acne, this is a great, affordable (yet cost AND time effective for your business!) treatment to test out in your Summer menu.

Back Masque - think of a clever name to fit your menu theme/style!

In a medium rubber mixing bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of marine fango with 4-6 drops of eucalyptus oil. Prep your bed for a body treatment, placing a protective covering on. Place a heating pad set on low on the table, so that it will line up under the client's back area. Spread a layer of the masque on to a disposable pad, and place on the heating pad. You can also apply the masque to the client's back with a body brush, and have them lie down on the disposable pad and heating pad.

If you've up sold the client into services to be done at the same time, begin those will the client is laying on the masque.

Once the other services have been completed, remove the back masque with warm, damp towels.

Need to Brighten Your Menu? How About A Strawberry Margarita Manicure

Looking for something to infuse new life into your Summer menu? Check out the Strawberry Margarita Manicure!

This treatment is great for exfoliating and moisturizing dry dehydrated skin and will have your clients feeling like they're lounging on the beach with an umbrella drink.

Hand Soak:
Add 6 drops of lime essential oil to a manicure bowl. For an added touch, float strawberry leaves or lime slices in the water!

Hand Rub:
Comebine 1/4 cup of epsom salts, 1/4 cup of coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of strawberry leaves to a rubber mixing bowl and mix well. Add in 6 drops of lime essential oil and blend together. Place the bowl in a mud warmer or hot towel cabinet.

Hand Masque:
Combine 2 tablespoons or rose clay powder, 2 teaspoons of aloe gel, 1 teaspoon coconut oil and 1 teaspoon of water and mix well in a rubber mixing bowl. Blend in 6 drops of lime essential oil. Place in a mud warmer or hot towel cabinet.

Follow your regular manicure protocol starting with the soak and followed by the rub and masque!

Client Loyalty- A Vital Key To Success!

How are you showing your repeat clients that you appreciate them choosing to give their hard earned money, to you? The staff members saying "thank you" and "have a nice day", while sincere, are expected as a common courtesy in business. What are you doing to thank them for coming back to see you, and not to your competition? What is your competition doing that keeps their clients from coming to see you? Are your clients feeling bored or like just another dollar sign? Those feelings are what lead your clients to go "try something new" - your competition...with the potential of not coming back.

Showerless Slimming Service For Summer!

Seriously (I can't help it!), slimming treatments are always a hot menu item during the summer. I've spoken to a few clients who were shying away from stepping out of their normal menu due to not having a shower. Not having a shower does not mean you have to lose out on offering services - you just need to get a little creative :)

Delicious Services For Spring: Papaya Facials!


Though papayas are technically available all year long, this delicious fruit tends to peak in the early summer. Combining Services For Better Results

Is your staff running into difficulty or resistance when up-selling complimentary services to clients?

Sometimes clients may not realize the reasons you are offering them additional services, aside from what they request. They may just be thinking you are trying to boost profits - which while that is true, it's not (should not) the only reason you are. The benefits of combining services to enhance their results is what they need to be made are of.

A great example is a client coming in for a body treatment. Going into winter, detox and cellulite treatments should start to increase. A client coming in for a detoxifying body scrub should also be getting a massage. A client coming in for a massage, should be getting a body scrub with dry brushing. Combining services like these enhances the overall result including increased relaxation. Explaining to your clients how dry brushing and a using a scrub like the Desert Mineral Detox prior to a massage will soften the skin, improve relaxation and help flush toxins in addition to the massage benefits.

Are Your Clients Bored? Check Out Some Ideas to Keep 'Em Coming!

Even with seasonal menu changes, clients can become used to your menu options which can lead to boredom - which can lead to them checking out what your competition is offering.

Are you offering things like "treatment of the day/month"? This is a great way to get clients to try new services, even at a discounted rate. You can introduce them to the next level of service, improve their results and increase their loyalty to you. Be sure to pick something from different categories each month to expand what your clients are coming in for. Things like microcurrent, high frequency, and body wraps are always great. Even offering an add on off the month like Eco-Fin or a collagen neck treatment can be successful for clients who have been on the fence about trying something new.

Do you have staff picks displayed in your retail section? Clients like to see what the professionals recommend and use themselves. This is a great way to boost retail sales and again, introduce new products and services to clients. As you've probably seen, once you get your clients talking they are more open to suggestions.

I've seen great success in companies that offer a monthly "how to" class. Whether it be proper techniques to use at home or on how to pick products for their skin type. Be sure to have products ready to demo, samples, sample jars and for purchase.
