Not sure where to start? Here are some ways to use cinnamon leaf essential oil at your spa:

Facial Scrub: Mix it with cinnamon sugar and coconut oil (or any oil your client prefers) to create a rejuvenating scrub that smells amazing!

Foot Soak: Mix a drop of cinnamon oil in a bucket of warm water that your clients can soak their feet in during pedicure services! This will also feel super refreshing.

Display Your Products With Pride!

When was the last time you changed the look of your retail displays? Specifically, the containers you display custom blends and/or your own blends in?

Every now and then it's a good idea to mix things up to attract your client's eye. Over time you, and your clients may become so used to the surroundings things just blur now. Changing it up gives the area new life, new looks and new opportunity to discuss products.

Here are some items that I've seen many orders for recently:

DIR Stylish Display Shelf Segreto - clients are loving the look if this one, not your typical display!

Salon Masters Display Case

Don't forget the little things like displays for your brochures or cards!

Incorporate Sage into Your Services - Your Clients Will Love You for It!

I adore the smell of sage...I have sage oil on my desk as I'm writing this. I have always found it a very calming scent and apparently I'm not alone!

I recently read an article about spas and salons incorporating sage in various ways to add some new life into their menu. One spa has a soothing sage menu where clients can choose from their favorite treatments.

You can offer a sage massage by adding a few drops of sage oil to your massage oil! Add in a sage scrub to really make the treatment stand out!
You can offer a calming sage foot treatment using a sage soak and foot masque! Pair it with some sage green pedicure slippers, toe separators and sage polish! (be sure to check all the polishes since the names may be deceiving!)

If you want to go all out, have a room dedicated to your sage treatment with sheets and blankets!

A Carrot A Day Keeps The Clients Seeing Results!

We've all heard at some point in our lives that eating carrots is beneficial to our eyes. What you may not have heard is that carrots are also excellent for your skin!

Carrots contain beta-carotene, a form of vitamin A that gives carrots it's orange color. Beta-carotene has excellent antioxidant properties, has been shown to be effective in anti-aging treatments and even out the appearance of the skin making it awesome for dry and mature skin.

You can utilize carrots benefits in your treatments in a variety of ways to keep it fresh and exciting for your clients. You can use carrot seed oil to make your own alternative moisturizing treatment by adding 2 drops of carrot seed oil and  2 drops geranium oil to a primrose carrier oil. You can change up what you mix the carrot seed oil with...it blends well with citrus oils as well as spice oils such as cedarwood.

You can also make your own fresh scrubs, masks and body treatments with carrot powder. Again, you can customize each treatment with your favorite (or your client's) essential oil.

You can have orange themed package complete with carrot treatments, orange headbands, orange robes, carrot sticks, and orange teas!

Gotu Kola, Your New Go To Ingredient

With more and more people shifting towards living greener lifestyles, having more natural options for treatments is vital in every business in this industry.

One powerful ingredient that can be used in a variety of ways to compliment any service menu is Gotu Kola powder.

Gotu Kola has been used for centuries in areas such as India, China, and Indonesia due to its many benefits including those related to beauty. There's even a legend in China that it is a "fountain of youth" herb that enabled a man to live to be 200!

Legends aside, Gotu Kola has been found to be useful in collagen production (hello anti aging friend!), improving blood flow, aiding in skin conditions such as psoriasis as well as being an antioxidant. There is even evidence that it can help improve elasticity and thicken the skin---great news for treating cellulite!

The great thing about it being in a powder is that it can be used in facials, body mudsscrubs and even hair treatments! This is a powerful ingredient to have in your arsenal that is easy to work with and extremely cost effective!

Bring Dry, Lifeless Hands Back to Life! - Importance of Skincare for the Hands

One of the most overlooked parts of the body when it comes to skincare is the hands. While we all focus on facial and body skincare, we often neglect the hands. The hands are the one body part that is exposed the most to the sun and harsh climates - almost as much as the face. Skincare of the hands is an important part of the overall health of your skin and you'll want to remember treat them just as you would any other part of the body.

In harsh weather conditions, the skin on the hands can become dry and rough. The winter is starting to slowly disappear and this is a great time to offer hand repair treatments. You can offer them as specials and/or add on services also! It is a good idea to recommend at home night treatments to your clients and offer retail items for that as well. Treatment of the hands should include exfoliation, moisturizing, protection and prevention to maintain healthy skin. Keep in mind that it is super important to exfoliate, as the dead skin cells will prevent any moisture treatments from being more effective.

Pour Some Sugar On Me...Perfect For Valentine's Day

Sugar tends to get a bad rep all across the world despite having some very beneficial qualities to it.
Don't get too exited, it's beneficial qualities lie in using it in skin care, not in eating cake.

Many people are aware that sugar makes an excellent scrub due to the granules, but it goes further than that. Sugar IS a great for exfoliation, it also does not clog pores and helps retain liquid. Sugar helps the skin retain moisture which in turn makes the skin stay supple and young looking.  Sugar happens to be a natural glycolic acid...yup, glycolic acid. Sugar not only hydrates the skin but it helps protect the skin from toxins and get rid of blemishes (ironic isn't it!).

There are different types of sugar you can use, each with slightly different results. White sugar is gentler than salt scrubs, brown sugar is gentler than white sugar (and smells delicious!)....two great options for those clients with extra sensitive skin! What's even better....sugar won't irritate freshly shaved skin! How many times have you or your clients, without thinking, used a salt scrub after shaving; you'd think with that kind of burn we'd remember!

Another great thing about using sugar is you can add essential oils, extracts and even vitamins. Many client's have seen great success mixing fruity scents to market the treatment as a sweet treat.

Looking for some inspiration? Let me get you started:

You can start from scratch:

SPA PANTRY Sugar Cane Crystals
SPA PANTRY Organic Sucanat Sugar

***Don't forget to try a few drops of essential oils to create signature blends!***
ESS Essential Oils
Aura Cacia Essential Oils
Lotus Touch Essential Oils

Or buy some already made (great for retailing!!!)

Lotus Touch Brown Sugar Scrub
Soothing Touch Brown Sugar Scrubs (a whole dessert cart of options here!)
Zanzibar Clove Sugar Scrub (this smells incredible!)
Giovanni Hot Chocolate Sugar Scrub

The sky is the limit on creating unique blends to sweeten your service menu!

Crushingly Fun! Add Some Flair To Making Your Own Products

Creating your own products is always fun, whether it's a body scrub or mask. I've posted before on all of the amazing raw ingredients that Pure Spa Direct carries to help you create an incredible service menu (you can read it here)

Now I know that there isn't always time to mix them in front of your clients but you can have a few items around to show off your skills.

When you use raw ingredients to make scrubs or masks, sometimes you need to grind the items together to bring out the essence of the different items. My favorite item to do that with is a mortar and pestle. If you aren't familiar with the name, you may recognize the pictures.

Here are some of the great ones Pure Spa Direct has that can add to the look of your business and show off your creating skills:

Mortar and Pestles

From wood to marble, there is one that you can fall in love with!

Even if you leave some cut ingredients or even flowers sitting in one for display, it will liven up the space and even invite your clients to ask you about it. That gives you the opportunity to talk to them more about all the great services you offer and the products you create--especially if you retail them!

Exfoliation - An Important Step in Your Facial and Body Services!

Exfoliation is an extremely important and very essential part of your facial services. Build up of dead skin cells will cause skin to look dry and dull and proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective. Exfoliation is a necessary step and will produce a better end result to your facials. Better results will keep your clients coming back!

Not only is exfoliation critical during facials, it is also important that your clients are paying attention to other areas as well. Other areas like hands, feet, and even the scalp also need to be rid of dead skin cells in order to keep the skin in its best condition!

Hands
Dead skin cells build up on the hands, causing them to look dry and dull. Even the nail beds need to be attended to since they’re inclined to become ragged and develop tears and hangnails.

Feet
The skin on your feet is thick and it can be hard to keep hydrated. If socks are not worn regularly, the skin on the feet may be drier than normal and cracked, especially along the heels. In order to lock in moisture, it’s essential to remove the dead, white skin.

Scalp
Styling products lead to buildup, which makes the hair look dull, limp and hard to style. Exfoliating the scalp removes debris, unplugs logged follicles, and gets rid of excess sebum and dead skin to increase circulation and hair growth.

Lips
Dead skin tends to accumulate on the lips, leading to dryness and chapping. When the lips aren't smooth or free of dead skin, they can look dried out.

Chest
The skin on the chest is home to hundreds of pores, which produce as much oil as the face and back
