Tools For Tightness

Everyone experiences a tight muscle every now and then, for some, all of the time.

Massage is obviously an excellent way to get some relief and loosen muscles. For the therapist, having tools helps treat the client, as well as saving their hands.

Here are some of the benefits of massage tools:
  • Effective in loosening tight muscles and trigger points (depending on which you go with)
  • Just as effective for self care for the therapist
  • Economical
  • Can be retailed to further boost profits
  • Easy to use

Now for some of our clients favorite tools:

Foot Rubz - For less than $7.00, you have a tiny powerful ball of relief. This is an easy retail item! Leave a few testers out, use them in a service and place a container at the reception counter!
Jacknobber II - awesome for trigger points!
Footsie Roller - Double by Body Tools
Tiger Tail Self - two sizes to meet your specific needs!
Core Stones - looking for something highly effective that clients will ooh and ahh over? Go check these out!

"Text Neck" A New Trend In Massage

Move over carpel tunnel syndrome, an issue becoming more and more common is text neck. Yes, exactly as it sounds - neck issues stemming from tilting your head down to look at your phone/tablet.

Whether this is an actual medical term or not, text neck is a real problem facing a majority of people. Many clients may not even know the reason for their neck pain, shoulder pain and other issues (headaches are a common complaint!), only that they are in pain.

You can attract a new set of clients or, introduce current clients to new services by simply advertising "Texting Relief" or something much more clever! It gives you an opportunity to educate clients about coming in for massage regularly to alleviate text neck symptoms. It allows you to introduce busy clients who may not have time (or want) to come in for a full hour service. Offering an express massage focused on the head, neck and shoulders, is a perfect remedy!

Be sure to incorporate some deep muscle therapy relief like Biofreeze, Sombra or Mother Earth Polar! Also, relaxing aromatherapy blends, hot/cold packs for use in service and for retailing are key to have on hand!

Here are some awesome items to consider:

Headache Relief Essential Oils
Corpak Hot/Cold Pack with Strap Trisectional - this is amazing for text neck!
Still Point Inducer
Neck Wrap
Head, Neck, and Shoulder Massage DVD
Soothing Touch Muscle Comfort

Ginger Oil For Pain Relief

It's no secret if you read my blog posts that I adore essential oils and all things aromatherapy. What I love most, aside from lovely aromas, is the therapeutic benefits associated with the oils.

I was just reading an article in Massage Magazine on a study done on the effectiveness of ginger oil combined with Swedish massage or traditional Thai massage on chronic lower back pain. The group conducting the study monitored both the short and long term effectiveness of the ginger oil and compared it against the baseline pain level at the start. Both modalities (although Swedish proved to be more effective) led to significant improvement in pain levels and disability.

Ginger oil is also known for increasing circulation making it a great oil for sports massage and client's with poor circulation.

Want to give this natural pain relief combo a try? Here are a few options to get you started:

ESS® Ginger Pure Essential Oil
Lotus Touch Ginger Essential Oil

Like making your own lotions, oils, scrubs?

SPA PANTRY Ginger Root Powder / 1 Lb
Organic Ginger Root
Organic Ginger Root Powder

I never tried ginger oil with any of my clients, but I am excited to give it a try!

Got A Pain In Your Neck?

Therapist, technicians, physicians and more at some point in their career have experienced neck pain. No matter how mindful you are of body positioning and self care, sometimes it's just inevitable. Sleeping positions and stress are also great causes of neck and shoulder pain. While receiving regular self care (massage, chiropractic or whatever you prefer!) is vital, here's something to help out as well.

This may not look like much but this little thing rocks. It's got a cool design and has high density foam that forms to your body so it's a natural comfortable fit. It takes the pressure off of the neck and shoulders to relieve tension, relax the muscles in your neck and shoulders (which can also help with anyone who clenches their teeth) and support your head.

I like this one because it's inexpensive, it works and it's a great retail product- I'm always a fan of something I can use that works that I can share with clients (and of course the retail profit doesn't hurt). I've heard clients say that it's the best thing between appointments to help alleviate their pain.  It's also nice that you can use it while you're watching television/reading, while meditating or even sleeping.

If you are looking for something to help your neck pain or have client's searching for a product to keep them in check between appointments, give this a shot.

Brain Pain Slowing You Down? Don't Lose Money Because of a Headache!

It seems for one reason or ten almost everyone experiences some form of brain pain at some point. Whether it's a stress headache or a full blown migraine, brain pain can seriously affect your routine.

If you've ever experienced a migraine then you know the pain, light sensitivity and nausea they bring. It can sometimes be difficult to hold anything down, including pain relief medicines. Thankfully there are other options to help ease the suffering. A new favorite of mine that has been working wonders for me this past week is the Lotus Touch Headache Relief Essential Oil Blend. Just a few drops on a tissue sitting on my desk so I can smell it while I work has been a life saver. Now, my first thought when it was suggested I use this was NO way- I'm already nauseous from the migraine - I'm not smelling anything. After a while, I was desperate, so I gave it a shot. The combination of extracts was not overpowering at all and not only started to calm my nausea and pain down, it also relaxed me. It did not completely cure my migraine but I was able to continue my day as usual. This is great for days when you have back to back clients and can't afford to be off your game. It also is a wonderful retail item - no matter what type of services you provide!

Some other great options to ease headache pain (for both you and your clients!!!) include:

HeadachEase Herb Tea 20 Tea Bags by Health King Enterprise / 20 Bags
Core Headache Ice Pillow ( I'm obsessed with this lil guy- the ice pack hits the pressure points on the base of the skull that help with headache pain of all kinds)
Cold Marble Stone Set for Migraine Therapy- why not offer some specific treatments to increase revenue!
Cold Stone Therapy for Migraine Headaches DVD- great video to learn how!

Keep some on hand for yourself or your staff....and be sure to keep extras on hand to increase your bottom line by retailing to your clients!

ALSO - if you're dead set for the traditional relief methods we have got you covered too!
Sinus Headache Caplets
Advil
Tylenol

There's no need to let a headache or migraine cost you money! You can keep up your regular pace and even make some money retailing any of the above products!
