Hot Oil Massage? Yes Please!

Maybe it's the weather here in NY starting to get a bit colder, all I can think of is getting a massage from a therapist who uses warm oil or lotion.  It struck me, even as a massage therapist, that my brain automatically went to thinking of therapists who warm their oil, rather than just thinking "I'm going to get a massage".

Something as simple as a bottle warmer can make the difference for your clients. You don't necessarily have to use it with every client, if you aren't a fan of working with warmed oil/lotion. Having it as an option however, may be a great investment. It may just be the tipping point for clients choosing your services or your competitor.

There are many options and styles to choose from to fit any budget!

Product Of The Week: Santa Barbara Massage Cream

Happy Friday! Hope everyone has been having a busy week!

This week's featured product is one of my favorites, Santa Barbara Massage Cream

Massage Therapist tend to be picky about what medium they use for massage whether it be oil, lotion, cream or gel. Personally, I've never been a fan of oil and only used lotion in school and in my own practice. When I received a gift of each scent of their line, I was immediately hooked. They smell WONDERFUL!

Made from olive oil, beeswax and coconut oil, it melts with body heat. With just the right amount of glide, this is phenomenal for both deep tissue without being too greasy, as well as silky enough for Swedish massage. It's an all-natural alternative for clients and therapists who prefer a more natural approach.

Add in the benefits of specific essential oils, you can customize for your clients. Available in Ylang Ylang & Orange, Clary Sage & Lavender, Eucalyptus, Lavender - and there is an unscented for sensitive clients or those who simply don't like scented products.

Try out an 8oz size to try for yourself, you'll be surprised how a little goes quite a long way! The smaller sizes also make great retail items!

Have an amazing weekend!

Massage On The Go?

Many of the mobile LMT's I've spoken with, have all had one major thing in common - ease of transport. I used to pop my table in the back of my car along with a bag full of linens, lotion, music, clock and more. I wanted to be sure I had everything my room had (minus the hot towel cabi!) to give the best possible on site table massage. The thing I hear the MOST, is how they need an easy to transport stool.

This is where my favorite manufacturer of massage products, Earthlite, comes in with the perfect solution. The Folding Massage Stool to match your table. Easy to transport and as durable as any Earthlite table or chair. All for under $100!

No more kneeling, squatting or asking clients for something to sit on!

Fall Menu Secret Weapon: Clove Essential Oil

We all know that pumpkin and cranberry are the sought after fall scents, flavor and menu items. If you are looking for a little something different to infuse some fall menu, take a look at clove essential oil.

Personally, the smell of clove always has a warm, comfort feeling to it. That little spice in fall foods that adds that something extra.  As an essential oil, it can bring about comforting memories or feelings of warmth, comfort and peace making it an excellent choice to add in to everything from massage oils, aromatherapy showers to pedicures.

It also blends well with citrus scents and not a lot is needed to achieve the full effect!

Oh Honey, Honey

Honey is unlike any other ingredient in nature and has yet to be synthesized in a chemistry lab! This rich, wonderfully scented Midnight Honey Bath and Beauty Oil is an inspired preparation --true, elegant, and complex in its ability to deeply condition the skin, while restoring suppleness and unleashing the senses.

NEW! Farmaesthetics Bath and Beauty Oil - Midnight Honey / 7 oz.

INSPIRATION:
Nature's most mysterious elixir... honey is unlike any other ingredient in nature and has yet to be synthesized in a chemistry lab! Farmaesthetics' richly round, darkly-scented Midnight Honey Bath and Beauty Oil, is an inspired preparation – true, elegant, and complex in its ability to deeply condition the skin, while restoring suppleness and unleashing the senses. Use in massage, bath, shower, or as a beauty oil for spot treating dry or patchy areas of skin. Apply after bathing when body is still damp, to wrap the skin in rich, warm moisture. (For external use only even though it smells good enough to eat!)

Arnica:
Arnica is highly regarded in herbalism for its ability to diminish bruising and swelling in skin tissue. Arnica has a complex chemistry, but simply put, the herb works to affect the blood vessels so that there is rapid reduction of inflammation, the kind associated with injured tissue. A capful used in external massage or in a warm bath soak, is a simple, effective way to introduce Arnica into the system, while at the same time conditioning the skin & improving circulation. Dermatologists are now recognizing the many benefits of Arnica for patients following laser or plastic surgery.

Applications & Benefits:
Luscious, herbal massage oil for moisturizing and conditioning the whole body complexion.
Luxurious and emollient when used in the bath or applied after shower as body oil.
Great for use in full body massage, having lots of "slip" for easy application and a heady honey scent that releases with friction of massage.
Best applied on damp, warm skin.
Soy has the added benefits of phytoestrogens, said to have balancing effects on irregular hormonal activities.

AS USED IN PROFESSIONAL TREATMENTS:

  • Use as a deep conditioning massage oil for body.
  • Use in Farmaesthetics Cornmeal Scrub treatments.
  • Use in bath to release emollient benefits of soy oil and honey absolute.

Key Ingredients:
Soy Oil: One of the high-grade, cosmetic grade carrier oils. Especially chosen for its softening, uncomplicated chemistry... light enough for massage, yet safe for those with nut allergies. Very emollient and soothing to the skin.
Honey Absolute: Whether in absolute form, used for its rich round scent to "perfume" preparations, or used in its whole form to soften and soothe the skin, honey is nature's most mysterious ingredient. It holds constituents that help heal the skin, protect against infection, and soften and even the complexion to achieve a healthy "glow".
Vitamin E: Used to stabilize all of Farmaesthetics natural non-aqueous formulations. Benefits in restoring skin's elasticity. Assists in healing scars and preventing stretch marks in skin that is being stretched from pregnancy or weight gain.
Ingredients:
Sweet soy oil*, honey absolute and vitamin E (certified organic ingredients*)

Farmaesthetics products are 100% natural, contain certified organic ingredients as indicated, are hypo-allergenic, non-irritating & dermatological tested, with a certified shelf-life of 2 years from the date of opening. No animal testing.

Essential Oil: Spolight on Organic Lavender

The popularity of essential oils is on the rise. Most estheticians and massage therapists have incorporated them into their treatments. Retailing them is simple, and an extra perk for your clients.

Today I want to tell you a little bit about Lavender Essential Oil, specifically
ESS® Organic Lavender High Altitude

Lavender grows at 600-1200 m altitude. The best plants, grown at 1200 m, are used to produce this exceptionally fine, high-quality Lavender. The plants for this oil are grown in the Italian Alps, near the French border. Unlike many other lavenders that have a "boiled" odor, it has a wonderfully fresh aroma, reminiscent of lavender growing wild or in gardens. Lavender is the most widely used essential oil in aromatherapy, particularly for its relaxing properties. 10 ml.

This oil has been certified as organic by the Soil Association, which means you can trace every single ingredient back to the farm where it was organically grown. Each oil is unique and fully certified to give you the highest quality possible.

Ingredients:
This is a natural Essential Oil produced by steam distillation of the bio-mass of Lavender flowers and consists of Terpenes, Terpene alcohols, and Esters - principally Linalyl Acetate.

13 Surprising Benfits of Lavender Essential Oils

Healthy Hair The Natual Way!

The natural movement in skin care is no secret these days. I speak with clients all over the world who tell me how concerned their clients are with ingredients and environmentally friendly treatments.

While many are focused on skin care/body treatments, there are also options for hair care! From creating your own oils for scalp massage to actual hair treatments, there are many natural options to excite your clients!

Here are some ingredient ideas to get you started:

Calendula flowers are awesome as a scalp treatment! Calendula helps calm irritated and/or sensitive scalps! Infuse a carrier oil with the flowers for a great scalp massage!

Dandelion Leaves work well for relief from dandruff and dry hair.

Ginger is excellent in a hair mask and/or scalp massage as it helps to stimulate hair growth. It also adds a little pep to the treatment!

Lemon Balm is great for clients with oily hair. It has mild astringent properties that help balance oil production.

Nettle is an all purpose hair herb - it helps with preventing hair loss, stimulates the scalp, helps with dandruff, split ends and helps with shine!

Rose Hips are chock full of vitamin c making them an excellent choice for strengthening hair

If you'd rather not make your own, take a look at the hair oil line from Organic Fiji!

Offer Your Clients Products with Frangipani Oil - They Will Thank You!

Not familiar with this oil? Neither was I until I read an recent article on its beauty benefits. Although it sounds like a decadent Italian dessert (yum!), frangipani oil comes from the frangipani tree which is also known as the tree of life and for centuries has been regarded for its healing powers. This oil is commonly used for its natural anti-aging properties, and also as an aromatherapy to help people maintain a sense of clam.

We have a few products made with this luxurious healing oil here at Pure Spa Direct! If you haven't heard of the amazing brand MeBath yet, you are missing out! I personally love their products, and I'm sure your clients will, too. They make an amazing sugar scrub and effervescent soak that's created using frangipani oil and mulberry leaves. The icing on the cake? It's infused with delicious blue agave making it smell so delicious you wish you could eat it! How cute is the packaging too?  Get these on your retail shelves today!

Nature's Botox: Emu Oil

Although not entirely mainstream just yet, did you know that emu oil has a plethora of health and beautifying benefits ? Sounds obscure, I know, but I was inspired to write about the lovely benefits of this miracle oil after seeing a sign on a health food store in my city that deemed 'Emu Oil is Nature's Botox.' I did research, read some articles, and came to the conclusion that this could be next in line to coconut oil which is currently my favorite beautifying oil. Sounds promising if you ask me! What (or who?!) is an emu, you ask? If you didn't know, an emu is actually a bird that can grow up to six feet tall and is native to the land down under of Australia. For quite an odd looking bird, (picture a goofy looking gigantic ostrich!), the oil they produce is magical to say the least! You can definitely add a unique skin care service to your spa for your clients who are looking to rejuvenate their skin. Check out some of emu oil's health benefits below!

  • Filled with Vitamin A and Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, emu oil can help to repair skin damage through antioxidant properties.
  • Why is it called nature's botox? High in oleic acid, this can help to regenerate skin cells and prevent wrinkles.
  • Leave your client's skin feeling super soft with emu oil, as it contains sapogens which are natural skin softeners.
  • Some evidence based clinical trials have even confirmed that emu oil acts as an anti-inflammatory which can be effective for irritated skin.
  • It can also be effective as a moisturizer when applied topically.

We carry pure emu oil at Pure Spa Direct which you can incorporate into your spa's services! Use it during facial treatments, or even use our Organic Emu Massage Lotion during massage services as well. Change up your menu and get your client's hooked on this beautifying oil!

The Essential Essential Oils

I'm obsessed with aromatherapy and essential oils...and scented candles! I love walking into a business and being greeted by a lovely scent. It's one of the first things clients notice when they walk in....what they see, smell and hear are vital.

Are you using any essential oils in your entryway?
How about in services? Are you utilizing essential oils to enhance treatments? It can be a bit overwhelming with all of the different scents out there.

For general use for filling the main reception area or walk areas with fragrance, you can use synthetic or organic - whichever you prefer. I have spoken with many clients who try to keep the main scent in the business a subtle yet noticeable scent; you want clients to notice but not be turned off by an overwhelming scent. Light fragrances like ylang-ylang and blends like Peace & Harmony are excellent choices.

For use in rooms, you want to be sure not to choose scents that conflict with any scent(s) of the treatment. You don't want the phenomenal service to be marred by a displeasing mix of smells! You can always ask clients (I know some businesses that include this on their intake forms) what they like and don't like!

For use in services, you can pick and choose to fit your theme, the services, time of year...you can be pretty creative with this! Things like lavender, cedarneroli and peppermint are all excellent choices.

There is also the option of choosing essential oil blends, or blending your own! The Complete Book Of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy is an excellent resource for all things essential oils.

Be sure to have tester strips available for clients to choose their own and to retail!

Not Just A Candle! Earthly Body Candles Work Triple Time

Are you in need of new candles for your spa? How about some massage oils, as well? Maybe you need to replenish your moisturizers, too. In need of all three?! I have just the product for your spa! I'm a huge fan of candles, and was excited to see that we have candles that aren't just meant for lightening and scent.

Our Earthly Body Candles TRIPLE as a candle, massage oil, and even moisturizer! That's my type of product! The best part is they come in a variety of delicious scents (Dreamsicle is my favorite)! These 100% soy based natural candles are environmentally friendly and petroleum free, as well as vegan. The best part is they last 50% longer than your traditional wax candles.

How do they work as a massage lotion and moisturizer, you ask? It's actually quite simple: A tiny spoon is included inside, and you pour the liquid that forms within the candle once it burns, into the spoon and onto your hand. While it may seen awkward to pour hot candle wax onto your body, please keep in mind that soy wax burns much cooler than paraffin wax. In fact, this soy candle with essential oils — including hemp seed oil — burns at only 2 degrees warmer than your body temperature (fun fact)!

Click here to see all of our Earthly Body Candles. They also make great retail products - I guarantee your clients will love them :)

Beauty's Very Own Liquid Gold - Argan Oil

Argan Oil has been gaining popularity in the last few years for it's beautifying and healing properties! It's called liquid gold, and for good reason - it offers a variety of beauty benefits and on top of smelling and feeling wonderful, your clients will most likely become addicted to it.

See below for some of this golden elixir's 5 main beautifying benefits, alongside our favorite products here at Pure Spa that your customers will absolutely love!...

1) Healthy, Glowing Skin
Due to the antioxidants within this oil, and its unique ability to moisturize without being too oily, Moroccan oil will definitely give you that healthy glow your clients are always looking for. Just a few drops is all it takes to make your customers' skin look radiant and glowing.

Our Argan Oil Ultra Hydrating Body Lotion by Body Drench will leave your customer's skin feeling smooth and hydrated all day!

2) Anti-Aging
Because of its high fatty acid and vitamin E content, Moroccan oil is sure to give aging skin a healthy boost. The natural properties within it alone can help maintain the skin's elasticity.

3) Healthy, Shinier Hair
Has the winter put a damper on your customer's hair and left it dull and lifeless? Or perhaps your boutique is located in a warmer climate year round, and the sun is damaging to your clients' tresses. Either way, this oil is not just for moisturizing skin, but it can also be put in the hair as well! Just a few drops is all you need to revive your customers who have dry and damaged hair. Since it's all natural, it also works great for your color-treated clients!

This Argan Oil Leave-In Treatment is perfect for replenishing dry and damaged hair.

4) Nails
Aside from your customer's skin and nails, this oil can also harden up and moisturize and dry, brittle nails. It is perfect to have in a spa setting, and you might want to reconsider having some in the manicure/pedicure area as well! Try massaging a few drops of oil into your customer's nails cuticle for moisturizing and to facilitate cuticle removal as well!

5) Anti-Inflammatory for all skin types
If your customer is suffering from sensitive skin after a wax treatment, you might want to consider retailing this product to them shortly after. This oil can be soothing and healing for those who suffer from ingrown hairs, razor burn, or even eczema and acne! Due to it's ant-inflammatory properties thanks to its nutrient-dense composition, Moroccan oil is a safe and natural alternative to those harsher chemically derived products on the market.

Keep a bottle of this Certified Organic Pure Argan Oil in your spa near your manicure area for quick use, or retail these bottles to your customers!
