The Eyes Have it!

The skin around the eyes is a huge problem area, and one of the first things I notice on a person. Probably because I notice mine changing!

The skin around the eyes:
  • is the thinnest on your body
  • has few oil glands
  • has 14 muscles just to open and close each eye
  • covers a complex capillary network that provides nutrients and oxygen
  • houses delicate nerves that control quick changes like rapid swelling during an allergy attack
  • has a protective barrier that is damaged by tears
  • is susceptible to dark circles from sun exposure, intake of certain medications, stress, illness, lack of sleep or excess pigmentation
  • becomes puffy from excess fluid caused by allergies, your period, sleeping, pregnancy or even increased salt intake
  • begins to sag and lose firmness due to gravity
What can you add to protect this skin? There are so many, but let me know you a few of my favorites!

Light and non-greasy daytime eye creme designed to brighten, target puffiness and ease fine lines.

ESTHETICIAN TIP: "After months of squinting under sunny skies, a lot of clients complain about aging eyes. Apply Multi-Task Eye Creme every AM to brighten, firm and moisture."

Product Benefits:
  • Targets the signature signs of eye aging
  • Brightens dark undereye circles
  • Moisturizes to ease fine lines
  • Helps skin feel firmer

A great retail product!

The modalities of this painless and safe Eye Master beauty device features a uniquely deep stimulating effect with Red LED light which can promote the regeneration of collagen, tighten skin and improve skin tone.

The five functions include:
  1. EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation): The EMS current stimulates the muscle tissue very gently causing warmth and secondary muscular movement that helps regenerate new collagen, improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and leave the skin looking smoother, more elastic, and taut.
  2. Mesoporation/Mesotherapy: “Mesoporation” is a combination of mesotherapy and electroporation which is widely used as mesotherapy without a needle in Europe. It helps achieve a high level of product penetration into the skin
  3. Electroporation: electroporation is an Enhanced Product Diffusion method which augments product penetration deep into the skin. The macromolecular components of anti-aging ingredients such as collagen and hyaluronic acid are generally too large to penetrate into the deep layers of the skin.
  4. RF (Radio Frequency): the premise behind RF is the electrical energy tends to follow the shortest distance between two electrodes (positive and negative). When electricity runs through living tissue, the high energy flow generates heat bringing blood circulation, lymphatic drainage and firming.
  5. Red LED (Light Emitting Diode) Therapy: the Red LED Light Therapy function penetrates the skin surface 8-10mm and helps stimulate fiber blast activity, increase collagen production, rejuvenate skin tissue, smooth skin texture, improve skin tone, and accelerate blood circulation.
Treat your clients' puffy, tired eyes with this fun masquerade inspired, eco-friendly pink gel eye mask made from biodegradable TPU material.

Usage: Cool in the refrigerator and use during or after facial treatments. Warm in a pan of water for a relaxing and calming experience.

Tip: Gift these after treatment to your clients!

Incorporate Sage into Your Services - Your Clients Will Love You for It!

I adore the smell of sage...I have sage oil on my desk as I'm writing this. I have always found it a very calming scent and apparently I'm not alone!

I recently read an article about spas and salons incorporating sage in various ways to add some new life into their menu. One spa has a soothing sage menu where clients can choose from their favorite treatments.

You can offer a sage massage by adding a few drops of sage oil to your massage oil! Add in a sage scrub to really make the treatment stand out!
You can offer a calming sage foot treatment using a sage soak and foot masque! Pair it with some sage green pedicure slippers, toe separators and sage polish! (be sure to check all the polishes since the names may be deceiving!)

If you want to go all out, have a room dedicated to your sage treatment with sheets and blankets!

Ayurveda And Your Business

Ayurveda is an ancient holistic healing system that originated in India. It has been steadily gaining popularity around the world in regards to addressing various issues within the body. You can read more about the history and theories behind it here.

Ayurvedic treatments are embraced in spas
as a non-medicinal means to promote deep relaxation.
Ayurvedic treatments are aimed to bring the body back into a state of balance. This includes the whole body, including the mind. It's no secret the physical effects stress can unleash within the body. Each Ayurvedic treatment is specially designed for each individual to garner the best possible results.

There are a range of different treatments you can offer within the Ayurvedic system including Ayurvedic massage and Shirodhara.

Shirodhara is a classic Ayurvedic treatment, thousands of years old, in which warm oil is poured in a continuous stream across the forehead. A vessel, suspended above the client's head, is used to pour the liquid in a pattern across the forehead and onto the scalp. Shirodhara boasts many wonderful therapeutic benefits, including enhanced blood circulation to the brain, improved memory, nourished hair and scalp, sounder sleep, and a calmer body and mind. Shirodhara is one of the most effective treatments for reducing stress and nervous tension.

Shirodhara has been used in efforts to treat a variety of conditions including sinusitis, allergies, scalp conditions, neurological disorders, memory loss, insomnia, hearing impairment, and certain types of skin conditions like psoriasis. It is embraced for the use in spas as a non-medicinal means to promote deep relaxation.

You can also create your own body wraps and masks using balancing powders

If you are looking for an exciting and exotic option to liven up your service menu, take some time to read about Ayurveda. It will not only benefit your clients' health but has unlimited profit potential for your business!

Spa Treatments For Beer Lovers!

A new spin on relaxing with a beer!

A spa in the New England area partnered up with a local brewing company to incorporate their craft beer into the service menu.

It's not as plain as offering a beer to go along with the services, although that's a nice idea as well!

They are using the ingredients used to make the beer in their services. For example, they use barley and hops among other things in their exfoliation scrubs. They offer a unique beer bath or pedicure beer foot bath and even a beer hair rinse. Apparently, beer is known for adding volume and shine to hair as well as being hydrating for the skin!

The spa also offers a full beer and ale menu for their clients as well tasting and other events you wouldn't expect to find at a spa.

Now, we can't provide the beer but we do have some of the ingredients to get you started!

Barley Grass Powder
Hops Flower Whole
SPA PANTRY Honey Powder

If you decide to add some beer services to your menu, let me know how well they are received!

Food For Thought And Profit

Most businesses want to be set apart from the competition, to stand out in any number of ways. In the spa industry, having unique and differing menu options is an easy and profitable way to stand out. There are thousands of products to mix and match with to give your service menu that extra wow factor.

One great product you may not have thought twice on bringing in is chick pea powder. Yes, chick pea powder!

Take a look here: SPA PANTRY Chick Pea Powder

The powder from my favorite nutrient and protein rich bean is great for use in body treatments!
Chick peas are packed with vitamins and nutrients that our skin loves including magnesium, beta carotene and vitamin A.

Magnesium has been shown to help with keeping the skin young and fresh!
Beta-carotene is a great antioxidant as well as excellent for aiding in having glowing skin!
Vitamin A has been known for years to be a great ingredient in skin care and anti-aging treatments.

So, how do you incorporate chick pea powder into your menu? It's so easy you'll wonder why you haven't tried it yet.
Chick pea powder can be blended into butters, masks, muds, and wraps. Mixing ratio ½
teaspoon of chick pea powder to 1 tablespoon of base. Since the powder doesn't dissolve well in carrier oils it's recommended to use a base cream.

To go with the chick pea powder here are some great base creams:

Soothing Toch Cream

A cost effective powder that will add some new flair to your menu and keep your clients interested, everyone wins!
