Poolside Services - An Interesting Trend

Have you ever been on vacation, lounging by the pool all relaxed not wanting to move and wondering how it could get any better?  What if, while you were laying there you were also getting a manicure, pedicure even a body scrub!

What does this mean for your business? Once you've done your research and connected with the appropriate people at the hotel, resort, B&B, country club or any place your creativity takes you...time to plan the menu!

Single use products like the Voesh waterless manicure and pedicure kits are the perfect product for poolside services! Each kit contains pre-measured single use packets of scrub, mask and lotion making it easy and clean at a price point you can't beat!

For pool loungers who may not want a full mani/pedi but would love their nails done, you can offer them a fun summer color with an anti aging treatment! The Voesh Collagen Socks and Gloves have collagen and vitamin E with pre-cut tips so you can polish while softening the skin! It doesn't get any easier than that!

Don't forget polishes! The summer collections are out and the CND Vinylux is an excellent choice for mobile services. Dries in under 9 minutes and lasts 7 days when used with the top coat!

You can also do a chair massage if you have a massage chair, and even incorporate a stone treatment with the Hot Stone Accu-Roller!

Body scrub treatments on the back, arms or legs are another thought - all you need is a great non oily scrub like the Desert Mineral Detox scrub, a spray bottle of water and some towels (even disposable ones!)

Whatever services you choose to offer, I'm sure the pool goers will gladly call you over!

3 Steps to Successfully Increasing Gift Certificate Sales

Do you want to increase your salon traffic as well as cash flow? Are your gift certificate sales mediocre, at best?

Gift certificate sales can give your salon or spa a huge boost, while getting new (and old!) clients through the door. But how easy is it to purchase a gift certificate from your business? How can you sell more without tapping out your resources?

#1: Set Gift Certificate Sales Goals - and Stick to Them!
Do you have a specific plan for your employees to sell gift certificates, and do you hold them accountable to their sales goals? If you answered no, this is definitely where you want to start. If you are looking to gift certificate sales to be a player in your salon's revenue, you have to have a plan!

Start by reviewing your gift certificate sales for the last year, and identify how many sales were made per month. You should see a fairly regular pattern of increased sales during holiday months, such as Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mother's Day. Once you have identified your baseline, you want to set your monthly goals for this year. Be sure to keep your goals attainable!

#2: Plan Your Gift Certificate Sales for the Year
Next, you want to split your monthly goals into monthly goals for each individual employee. Holding your employees accountable for meeting their sales goals will help motivate them to suggest gift certificates to customers. You can even hold employee contests to see who can sell the most gift certificates or the highest valued gift certificate to encourage their sales even further!

Another idea is to plan monthly/quarterly events or specials for your gift certificate sales. You can do giveaways (for every $10 worth of gift certificates a client purchases, their name is entered into a drawing for a basket or goodies, free services, etc. - whatever you want the prize to be), plan special events, or offer special promotions (such as buy 1 gift certificate, get 25% off the second) to help boost gift certificate sales.

Planning your specials/promotions/events for the whole year holds you and your staff accountable to following through on these ideas, as well as gives you the opportunity to schedule these special events in advance. Encourage your employees to participate in planning and carrying out the plans for these events!

#3: Extend Your Gift Certificate Sales Online
Your online presence is a great place to offer your gift certificates. If you are unable to sell gift certificates directly through your website, companies such as SpaBoom work with spas and salons to create an instant gift card program through their website. Instant gift cards are fast, convenient, and you will often see a spike in last-minute gifts purchased - even when your business is closed!

Always be sure to monitor your online presence. Make sure you claim your business information on websites such as Yelp, as this will increase your trustworthiness in the eyes of a browsing client. Provide descriptions and location details wherever you can, and make sure your website is functional, appealing, and simple to use!

By focusing on these steps, you can easily grow your revenue from gift certificate sales! Only part left is choosing the cutest gift certificate for your company! Check out Pure Spa Direct's gift certificate selection here: http://www.purespadirect.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=gift+certificate

Good luck!

March Is Caffeine Awareness Month....Brew Up Some New Treatments!

Now that Valentine's day has passed, are you looking to replace the chocolate service specials with something outside of your usual menu options? Are you just looking to infuse new life into your menu rotation?

Coffee is not only a warm cup of deliciousness, it has incredible skin care properties as well.
Here are just a few of the benefits of coffee in the skincare and beauty industry:
    Cafe Mocha
  • Coffee can help reduce inflammation (think, puffy eyes!) and caffeine constricts blood vessels (think, slimming!)
  • Coffee can temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite (a study done by the University of São Paulo found a 17% reduction in the size of cellulite cells)
  • Ground coffee is an excellent and gentle exfoliant
  • Coffee is an antioxidant, it can help bring impurities out from the skin
  • The scent of coffee can invoke powerful positive memories and joyous feelings (read more about scent marketing here---there is a fresh brewed coffee scent available for the Scent Linq!)
Not sure where to start? Here are our most popular coffee products both for services and of course, retail!

*you can make your own face, mani/pedi and body scrubs*

*simple and effective, this mask will have your clients skin looking and feeling fresh and smooth within
minutes*

This line is amazing with both professional and retail packaging available, with many options including Kopi Coffee

Again, creativity is key when marketing treatments...think about what you, your friends and your clients would want to see and experience. Why not offer coffee parties in March complete with service options, add -ons, coffee drinks and treats!

Small Business Saturday---Don't Miss Out On Getting Yourself Recognized!

Every radio and television station is filled with adds for Black Friday and Cyber Monday which are almost upon us. Still rather new, in it's fourth year, is Small Business Saturday. Many folks think of their local mom and pop retail stores but it is also an excellent opportunity to draw in new client, new awareness in your area and to create some excitement in your business in general.

I've spoken to a few people in the industry who are starting to think of ways to capitalize on this new shopping holiday. If you've never thought about how you can benefit from Small Business Saturday, or are looking for a jumping off point...here are some ideas.

Many local newspapers offer free advertising, which is always an easy way to get the word out. A simple ad showcasing your business and even offering a new client discount is a free way of getting someone in the door.

Window banners and/or signs out front are a great way to catch street traffic. I would have a banner in the window near the holidays that said Massage $49.95 in GIANT letters. This was enough to get people in the door out of curiosity. This enabled me to show the potential client everything we offered aside from the massage special.

In the spa/salon advertise a Small Business Saturday special or event. You can host raffles, giveaways, special packages for existing and new clients. You can make it as big or small of an event as you like.

If you have the resources, grab some air time on a local radio station or local television channel.

Offer your existing clients a special deal where if they bring a friend in on Small Business Saturday they each get a complimentary add on or gift; whatever is best for you.

Set up a special holiday retail section in your business. If you feel like offering a one day sale or promotion even better! Here are some great gift options:

Mani/Pedi Pack (you can fill this pack with any items you like such as nippers, toe nail clippers, orangewood sticks, buffing blocks, nail files and Super Duper Mini Pumice Bars. You can have them customizable too! the more creative the more appealing it will be to your clients!)

My favorite items for gift packs (as well as receiving them!) are the Extended Vacation retail line. You can offer everything individually or offer them as sets.

CND Scentsations line offers different scents and sizes

As always, with a little creativity you can bring awareness to your community, your existing clients while having fun and increasing profits!

Celebrate!!!! Keeping Your Clients Happy and Increasing Revenue

Keeping your clients happy is as imperative as offering quality services. Providing quality services is a must as we all know but the thing that sets decent businesses apart from the ones who are always growing is how special their clients feel.

It really doesn't take much to make people feel like you really care about them - not just their business. With a bit of creativity you can tailor ways to show your clients you are invested in their well-being. Package deals are great money saving options but don't really convey a personal caring touch that people respond to.

Some of our clients offer monthly giveaways either by raffle or by guessing the number of an item in a jar.
Others offer loyalty cards where after a set number of services they get a discount or a free add on.
Another great cost effective idea is to offer an add on treatment that will benefit the individual client based on their needs. Explain why this would be beneficial to them and offer a free demonstration or even let them experience the treatment for the first time at no charge.

Birthday or client anniversary dates are great times to show how much you care with something as simple as a personalized card signed by the staff with a coupon enclosed.

Here are a few items that our client's who cash in on caring use:

Raffle Tickets- most people I know get excited for raffles. You can pick different colored tickets for different tiered prizes and make it fun!

Glass Jar- small enough where you can fill it with items for clients to guess without making you crazy with a high quantity! Also at $2.18, extremely cost effective.

Rhinestone- a pretty way to fill a jar. A variety of colors to chose from and only $2.15 for 100 of them- cost effective.

Gift Bags- perfect sizes for gifts as well as selling packages or retailing by themselves!

Depending on what type of services you offer, you can find some great little items to give away. Check out the unlimited options at Pure Spa Direct!

Growing Your Business On The Go!

There are multiple benefits for massage therapists to utilize chair massage both in the office and on the road.

Half of the therapists I know never bothered to buy a massage chair while they other half swear by them. I personally saw the benefits of having one versus not.

Having one set up in your office, especially those who work out of a doctor, chiropractor, acupuncture or any other non traditional massage office is a great way to gain new clients and get people comfortable with massage therapy without having to undress. It's also the perfect time to educate those people who are unfamiliar with the benefits of massage therapy. You also could use it to book shorter sessions at $1.00 per minute with a 15 minute maximum or whatever works best for you to fill in any gaps in your schedule. I found that with people's hectic schedules sometimes they could only spare 10 or 15 minutes or they tweaked something between sessions. People would happily swing by for a quick session to hold them over until their next regular session. It was a great way to profit off what would have been lost time.

Bringing a massage chair to local events or setting up at a local business is a great way to increase your visibility in the community. Working an event or fair you get to reach a large number of people who you may never have met otherwise. You could also set up with a dry erase board with your company information and offer coupons or advertise specials while giving out free 10 minute chair massages.

If  you don't already have a chair massage or are looking to upgrade the one you have, check out the Avila II™ Portable Massage Chair Package by EarthLite
This is an unbeatable package at a great price.

Another great chair package is the Vortex™ Portable Massage Chair Package by EarthLite. It's lightweight, durable and also has an attractive price point.

Don't forget to stock up on plenty of disposable face cradles covers like the W.R. Rayson Disposable Face Cradle Cover / 50 Pack

A massage chair is a great way to increase your visibility and will save you money in advertising!
