Easy Tips To Boost Retail Sales This Holiday Season

Looking to really boost your retail sales? With the holidays quickly approaching now is a good time to take a look at the products you offer, along with these great ideas/tips to maximize your area and efforts!

When was the list time you changed the items you retail? I'm not saying ditch product lines or anything however, your clients can and will become bored with seeing the same items every time. Mix it up by throwing in some unique items to catch the eye. Things like Therapearls, salt lamps, raw mud soap, and the Desert Mineral Detox Body Scrub - Anti-Cellulite Formula (this is our most popular retail item!)

What type of music are you playing in your business? Do you have different music for your rooms and main area? Having more upbeat music by the register (I'm not suggesting blasting dance music or making a drastic change) has been shown to energize clients after their services, putting them more in that buying mood.

It's no secret that impulse buying is the easiest way to boost sales. If you don't have something little, budget friendly and useful by the cash register, you're missing out on the easiest of sales! Things like the wet brush squirts, lip balms (Eco-Fin body balm is phenomenal!), tweezer displays, hair ties even facial/body tanners set by the checkout are top sellers!

Do you have any lighting in your retail area? Back lighting shelves is a great idea however, just being sure there is adequate lighting may be enough to bring attention back to the area.

Do you have pricing on your retail items? Most people will not purchase an item if there is no price attached to it. They may feel uncomfortable asking the price, not purchasing after knowing the price (whether they were just curious or can't afford it) or just not even bother asking at all. Take a few extra minutes to label your retail items. It doesn't have to be an unattractive stock label, you can create them to fit your style.

This one I found interesting - is there a mirror in your retail area? No matter what you are retailing, people like to see themselves. Even a handheld discreet one can make the difference....a $3.00 investment that can really pay off!

Be sure to have "tester" products out for your clients. People are more likely to buy items they can touch, smell and try out. Be sure to label the bottles "tester" just so there is no confusion!

Even if you change up your retail area twice a year, it may be enough to keep those profits on the rise. If you're not sure what you want to retail, give us a call!!!

Combining Services For Better Results

Is your staff running into difficulty or resistance when up-selling complimentary services to clients?

Sometimes clients may not realize the reasons you are offering them additional services, aside from what they request. They may just be thinking you are trying to boost profits - which while that is true, it's not (should not) the only reason you are. The benefits of combining services to enhance their results is what they need to be made are of.

A great example is a client coming in for a body treatment. Going into winter, detox and cellulite treatments should start to increase. A client coming in for a detoxifying body scrub should also be getting a massage. A client coming in for a massage, should be getting a body scrub with dry brushing. Combining services like these enhances the overall result including increased relaxation. Explaining to your clients how dry brushing and a using a scrub like the Desert Mineral Detox prior to a massage will soften the skin, improve relaxation and help flush toxins in addition to the massage benefits.

It's not limited to body treatments/massages, clients coming in for their regular anti-aging facial should also be coming in for microcurrent treatments regularly to enhance the anti aging effects of the facial.

You already know which of your services pair well together, you just need to carefully explain this to your clients. Having them aware that you have their best interests and results in mind is key!

Money With Milk And Honey!

September is National Honey Month! That makes now the perfect time to start thinking about and bringing in products to cash in (literally!) on treatments that focus on honey. Here is a great body treatment that generally sells for $100-125 and costs you less than $5.00 per treatment - my type of math!

Milk & Honey Body Treatment - this is excellent for moisturizing dehydrated skin, stress relief, calming of the skin and more!

In a rubber mixing bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of honey powder with 1 tablespoon of coconut powder and mix well. Add in 2 drops each of chamomile essential oil and jasmine essential oil. Mix well and place the bowl in a mud warmer, hot towel cabinet or stainless steel bowl filled with hot water.  Apply the scrub as you normally perform your body treatments.

If you have a hydrotherapy tub, after removing the scrub is an excellent time for a soak! Mix 1 tablespoon of buttermilk powder to 2 cups of hot water followed by 5 drops of chamomile essential oil. When filling the hydrotherapy tub, tilt the bowl slightly, hold under the faucet and slowly pour the mixture into the tub (go slow to avoid clumping!)

After the scrub and soak, finish off with this moisturizer to lock in all of the wonderful moisture!

Mix 2 teaspoons of wheatgerm oil with 2 drops of chamomile essential oil. Massage the oil into the skin and wipe off any excess oil to finish.

You can create full body packages centered around honey as well! You can use things like Cuccio Naturale Lyte Ultra-Sheer Body Butter - Honey & Soy Milk in nail services and massage!

Maximizing Your Spa Retail Space

I read an interesting article on Skin Inc (you can read the article here) recently about smaller businesses and the challenges they may face when it comes to retailing.

The article recommends for smaller retail spaces, to carry three product lines to offer to your clients.

Having too many choices can lead to clients not getting anything as they may feel overwhelmed or fear of getting the wrong item - especially if they do not ask for your advice!

When choosing a retail line, as the article explains, it is important to keep in mind the type of clientele you have, the area you live in and what the clients are looking for. I know many clients who periodically poll their clients about everything from the services they offer, retail items right down to any aromatherapy/fragrance in the business. Not only does this ensure you will be offering what your clients want, it shows them that you care about them, not just their money.

Here are some of the most popular retail lines that we see trending right now:

Impulse Buying - Maximizing Your Retail Profit

I just read an interesting article about increasing retail purchases by how and what you are placing on the reception counter. According the the article, (which can be found here) there are 3 key points to maximizing impulse buys - product selection, placement and the time of year.

You want to make sure your newest and hottest retail items are displayed prominently so the client doesn't have to search for them. Items like tweezers, wet brushes, ingrown zone and similar inexpensive and easy to grab at checkout are ideal.

Rather than having your retail items just sitting on the counter (waiting to get knocked over!), why not display them in baskets or decorative dishes like bamboo trays.

For timeliness, maximize holiday rushes! Around Christmas time, add in holiday scented candles or peppermint products. Using your imagination here will really help your retail counter stand out and reflect your personality.

Ideas for Organization - Employee Tip Lockers

So I was just introduced to a really great idea when it comes to organizing gratuity tips for your employees. Normally, your client would give their tip to the front desk or directly to the employee. However, sometimes tips can get misplaced, forgotten, etc. I thought that this idea was a perfect solution for this!

The idea is kind of like individual employee "cubbies", but they are lockers. With our Cell Phone Locker Units, the lockers are small enough for this purpose and all that is needed is the optional door with the slot. We have many options available, as these are custom made to order. They are available in Aluminum, Bronze, Gold, and Sandstone with your choice of 15, 20, and 25 individual lockers. You also have the option of custom engraving, plexiglass window, or a clear plastic card holder(which is great for when you have to switch out names!)

Each door can come with either a re-settable lock or a key lock (master keys are available as well) which can be assigned to each employee. All your clients would have to do with this is insert their tip right into the designated locker with the employees name that had assisted them that day.

Aahhhh Spa-Cation!

It's no secret people are being a bit more frugal with their money than in the past. The term "stay-cation" is used much more frequently than ever before. This shift in how people spend their vacation money and time is a good opportunity for local spas to bring in new clients.

I recently read an article that featured a prominent spa in New York City that has been cashing in on spa-cations which have been very popular with locals.

The beauty of a package like this is that you can create it any way you see best. You can have build your own package from different options or you can have pre-set options or even multiple levels to them.

For example, you could put together something like this:

*60 minute massage or facial
*15 minute addition of the client's choice of add-ons (scalp massage, more massage time, paraffin etc)
*special lunch (if you have the capability or a place you can work with to provide food)
*gift certificate for future use

Depending on the services you offer, you can create magical packages to entice and wow clients looking to stay local yet indulge more than their usual.

Expand Your Clients Trust in You by Offering Retail Products

I've head from various businesses that they don't retail at home products.
This seems crazy to me, who doesn't want to potentially make double their money on a product? The more I thought on it, I realized it could be fear based. Business owners or technicians may fear that recommending an at home treatment may cause their clients to stop coming in for regular treatments. I understand that fear, however at home products while great, won't replace the professional expertise and services you have to offer. Having confidence in your services, your products and technicians makes a world of difference.

Offering products that compliment the services your clients see you for will build their confidence in you. It will also make them feel that you truly do care about them, not just their money. Even offering something similar to what you use in your services is a great way to hold clients over between treatments.
