Fall Menu Secret Weapon: Clove Essential Oil

We all know that pumpkin and cranberry are the sought after fall scents, flavor and menu items. If you are looking for a little something different to infuse some fall menu, take a look at clove essential oil.

Personally, the smell of clove always has a warm, comfort feeling to it. That little spice in fall foods that adds that something extra.  As an essential oil, it can bring about comforting memories or feelings of warmth, comfort and peace making it an excellent choice to add in to everything from massage oils, aromatherapy showers to pedicures.

It also blends well with citrus scents and not a lot is needed to achieve the full effect!

Out With The New, In With The Old!

Looking to not only keep up with what is trending, but to surpass your competition?

Does you menu only showcase what is up and coming? Do you have a a solid foundation of tried and true treatments? Many of the spa owners I've spoken with lately, are trying to get the perfect mix of both.

Himalayan salt has been a trending topic for some time, but with old roots. The ancient secret, no longer so secret, has been proven to aid in respiratory issues, blood sugar, energy levels, sinus issues and more....much more.
While retailing salt lamps is a wise choice, have you thought about offering full body salt treatments?  Not just scrubs or soaks with Himalayan salt, thinking bigger...think bolder (think profit and reputation!)!

From a Himalayan Salt Table that provides the benefit of direct skin contact with perfectly-warmed salt, without any worry about sanitization, to a salt booth all the way to an entire custom built salt room or cave of your own. Read that again, a custom built salt room or cave of your own. How many businesses in your area are boasting that?

If you'd like to take your business to the next level, give us a call at 800-434-0018 to set up a salt room consultation!

Waterproof Treatment Table?

One of my favorite things is discussing with clients their menu options (you didn't think we're just order takers, right? We live for this industry!) and bringing new treatments in.

Over the years, many clients have held back from offering treatments that involve mud or water, if they don't have a wet table and vichy shower (want to bring those in? click here to check out financing!) for mess concerns. While the Lotus Touch Seaweed Gel Wrap is a phenomenal option (seriously, check out this post for why it's a #1 choice for many small businesses looking for big profit with no mess), for clients looking to expand into things like muds, there's another solution!

The Waterproof Spa Treatment Sheet Set is just the thing needed to crush it this season with body wraps! It not only keeps moisture out, it's also machine washable! The set includes a fitted sheet and face cradle cover, and did I mention it's under $20? For less than $20 you can transform your treatment table into a body wrap sanctuary!

Not sure what mud to start with? Here are some top favorites from our clients all across the globe:

Raw Alaska Glacial Mineral Mud - this is my all time favorite mud. The quality is unparalleled, you can choose from powder or pre-mixed, and there are retail items to boost sales even more. It also happens to be the most mineral rich mud on the market. Want to know more? Click here for more on how and why you should consider this line.

Moor Mud - this was my favorite mud before I tried the Alaska mud. While the options don't include lavender or peppermint like the Alaska mud, take a look at this as well!

Sedona Mud - this is a red mud that one of our 5 star resort clients has on hand at all times. The one they prefer is this one by Spa Pantry, their clients love the scent!

European Rose Body Mud - Nourish + Moisturize + Heal + Replenish by Biotone- I used this in my massage practice and it was a client favorite. A cream based mud with hydrating oils like sunflower and avocado, this leaves the skin feeling silky smooth

Take a look at all of the different body wrap options here, after adding the waterproof treatment table to your cart!

Not sure what else you need to get started now that you've got a waterproof table? Give us a call or shoot me an email (christine@purespadirect.com) and I'd be happy to help!

Menu Spotlight: Back Acne Be Gone!!!

Since this is the season of dare to bare, people want their skin as flawless as possible without having to spend a fortune. If you have clients with back acne, this is a great, affordable (yet cost AND time effective for your business!) treatment to test out in your Summer menu.

Back Masque - think of a clever name to fit your menu theme/style!

In a medium rubber mixing bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of marine fango with 4-6 drops of eucalyptus oil. Prep your bed for a body treatment, placing a protective covering on. Place a heating pad set on low on the table, so that it will line up under the client's back area. Spread a layer of the masque on to a disposable pad, and place on the heating pad. You can also apply the masque to the client's back with a body brush, and have them lie down on the disposable pad and heating pad.

If you've up sold the client into services to be done at the same time, begin those will the client is laying on the masque.

Once the other services have been completed, remove the back masque with warm, damp towels.

Take a look at some information and ideas for add on treatments to up sell, here.

Did you know June is National Papaya Month?

Did you know June is National Papaya Month?  Perfect for a theme!!! I'm a fan of theme days/months. I get bored with the same old routine, menus, options etc. Even if I adore a treatment, product, food etc., I get excited to see something new thrown in the mix. If a place does something different every month, it can quickly become my go to spot. It leaves me curious and looking forward to what the next surprise will be. It's like my birthday every month. Would you like your clients to think and feel that way about your business?

Ok back to papaya! This tasty fruit contains skin loving goodness including vitamin c, vitamin b, magnesium, minerals, flavonoids, and  lycopene (a carotenoid, which acts an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant) to name a few things that make it more than just a snack.

Papaya also has a natural enzyme called papain, which is excellent at skin whitening and makes for a gentle and moisturizing exfoliator. Did I mention it helps the body combat free radicals? It's like a ninja against premature aging.

June Jacobs has you covered (June Jacobs Papaya for June Papaya Month - coincidence?)The June Jacobs papaya products are a favorite among the top spas in the world, with good reason. Those familiar with her line may back me up on this one. Paraben and preservative free along with natural ingredients such as white, red and green tea extracts combined with goji berry, pomegranate and grapeseed extracts. Clients adore everything from the packaging and scents to the results they see and feel making it the perfect retail item (if you're using June Jacobs products in services, be sure to have the retail sizes close by!) that will be a repeat sale!

Hot & Spicy Scrub!

Just in time for the cooler fall weather, here's a treatment recipe to indulge your client's senses!

Hot & Spicy Scrub
(I'm confident you'll have a more creative name!)

In a rubber mixing bowl, mix 1/4 cup Sucanat Sugar with 1/2 teaspoon of  Ginger Root Powder. Add 6 teaspoons of Grapeseed Oil and 6 drops of cinnamon essential oil and mix well. Place the bowl in a mud warmer, hot towel cabinet or a large stainless bowl of how water.

Start off the treatment with dry brushing (include it in the price of the treatment, or offer it as an add-on beneficial treatment!)  and apply the scrub according to your regular protocol (don't forget to wrap the client in plastic wrap and cover with a thermal blanket to increase the effects!). Leave on for about 15 - 20 minutes. This is the perfect time for an add-on scalp massage! Little touches like an herbal eye pack or cool pack will stand out to your clients as well. Remove the blankets and sheeting and have the client shower if you do not yet have a Vichy shower. You can also use warm damp towels and a spray bottle to remove.

Be sure to have some hot apple cider or tea on hand to complete the experience!

We've been speaking with many clients the last few weeks about their fall menus as well as the upcoming holiday season. While it may seem far off, it will be here before you know it!

Here is one of my all time favorite recipe combinations for the fall and/or winter season that can be used in a multitude of services:

Cinnamon Comfort (or whatever name you'd like to use!)
To start off, create the mood. Fill a diffuser with water and add in the following essential oils: 2 drops of Clove, 5 drops of Cinnamon, and 4 drops of Ginger -  for every ounce of water.

For massages, mani/pedi treatments etc, you can make the following massage oil, cream or lotion:

In a mixing bowl,  mix 4 oz. of unscented oil, cream, or lotion with the following essential oils:  1 drop of Clove, 3 drops of Cinnamon, and 2 drops of Ginger and mix well.

For a cinn-ful body scrub/polish:
In a mixing bowl, mix 8 oz. of unscented salt or sugar with 4 tablespoons of a carrier oil and mix well.  Add in the following essential oils: 5 drops of Clove, 10 drops of Cinnamon, and 5 drops of Ginger.

Very easy to make and use - you can even get sample jars or bottles to give your clients any extra to take home!
