New Organic Massage Oil And Vegan Lotion!

It's great to see so many companies adding in more organic, natural and even vegan products! I get excited every time we add a new one. I was super excited to see the new certified organic massage oil and vegan lotion.

I speak with clients every day who are concerned with the ingredients they are using on themselves and their clients. Sacred Earth has always had a strong line of products and this is a great addition!

The oils are USDA certified and concentrated so you don't need a lot to go a long way! They are also a lighter oil that allows you to do effleurage and deep work which is always nice.

The vegan lotions are  certified by the Vegan Awareness Foundation (Vegan Action) and contain USDA NOP Certified ingredients. Hypo-allergenic and full of organic polyunsaturated oils and organic botanical extracts this is sure to become a favorite!

Check them all out!

Cold Stones For Migraine Relief

Headaches are one of the most common complaints we hear about, migraines are one of the most debilitating form of a headache. Personally, I am open to pretty much any treatment that claims migraine relief. I have tried acupressure, acupuncture, aromatherapy (Migraine Miracle is awesome!) however, I have not yet tried cold stone massage therapy treatment.

As a migraine sufferer, I am well aware of the relief a cold pack can provide. Massage therapy combined with cold therapy can be extremely helpful in dealing with migraine pain. Migraines are not only painful, but they are stressful. Massage will help calm the nervous system down which helps the body naturally relax. Cold therapy will help decrease the pressure felt by the excess blood flow to the head/brain which causes so much pain.

Adding in complimentary treatments such as aromatherapy and trigger point massage will increase the all around benefits.

For a Cause: Massage Therapist Raises over $27,000 in Cross-Country Solo Run

One of the things I am most struck by working in the beauty industry is the general attitudes of kindness, giving, and wellness. This has been proven to me over and over again throughout the thousands of conversations I have had with clients over the years, but I recently read an article that just blew me away. Jessica Goldman, a massage therapist from New Hampshire, recently completed a solo, self-supported run across the United States to raise money for the Brain Injury Association of America. Jessica was only the second woman to ever complete a cross-country solo run.

According to Massage Magazine, she was inspired by two of her friends who are living with brain injuries, and her focus and motivation to continue running came from thinking of them. Jessica said, "I couldn't give up, because I didn't want them to give up."

Jessica began her run in San Francisco on April 16, and completed it on July 15 in New York, New York. She has far surpassed her goal of raising $15,750 for the Brain Injury Association of America, with current donations totaling over $27,000. Pain In The Neck...Massage Therapy News For Chronic Neck Pain

Multiple, hour long sessions every week are more effective
in treating chronic neck pain than shorter or less frequent sessions
It's no secret that massage therapy is highly effective in the management of chronic pain. Are your client's coming in for long enough sessions frequently enough to gain the most benefit?

I was just reading a study done by the Annals Of Family Medicine that concluded multiple, hour long sessions every week are more effective in treating chronic neck pain than shorter or less frequent sessions. According the the Annals Of Family Medicine, neck pain is the 8th leading cause of disability in America and the 4th worldwide!

Do you find a majority of your clients coming in specifically for neck pain, or asking for extra attention on their neck? As with most things, prevention is key. Educating your clients on stretching, awareness of proper posture and of course regular massage therapy will ease their pain. Educating them on the effectiveness of weekly hour long sessions for chronic pain is huge. Within a few short weeks, clients who usually come in monthly or every few months should notice a decrease in their daily pain and hopefully, increased range of motion in their neck (generally speaking, not taking into effect specific injuries/issues).

As always, having effective items for your clients to use at home will aid in the pain relief (and endear them to you even more!)

Here are a few of our massage therapists top picks:

Biofreeze (especially the roll on...clients can take it with them for easy application wherever they go!)

Nurturing Touch - Modern Massage for Children

I was just reading an article on MassageTherapy.com in which Tiffany Field, Ph.D., of the Touch Research Institute (TRI) in Miami, Fla. was quoted as saying, "Every child, no matter the age, should be massaged at bedtime on a regular basis."  We know touch is the first sense to develop in humans and it is vital to our health and well-being. The article
on MassageTherapy.com also explains that, "Touch is the first sense to develop in humans. It is essential to our health and well-being. Babies have been known to fail to thrive and even die without an adequate amount of physical contact."

So I was excited to see this new book released called, "A Modern Day Guide to Massage for Children" by Tina Allen. Ms. Allen is an award winning author, international lecturer and authority on pediatric massage. This beautifully illustrated book provides families and professionals an easy to follow guide to incorporating nurturing touch into the lives of children. Ms. Allen managed the nation’s first comprehensive pediatric massage program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), where she trained volunteer massage therapists and medical professionals to work with hospitalized Rehabilitation patients, medically complex infants in the Center for Newborn and Infant Critical Care (CNICC), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Children with Retinoblastoma, Spina Bifida and Cerebral Palsy. She is currently consulting on the development of comprehensive pediatric massage programs for The Mayo Clinic, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Shriner’s Hospital and Sutton Children’s Medical Center. For more information on Tina Allen visit here: LiddleKidz.com

I think this is such a great retail idea for Day Spas, Massage Centers and Wellness Centers. Wholesale orders are available for businesses. Contact Blue Miso Books 818-209-1918

Increase Your Earnings at Your Massage Business by Retailing!

I have just recently found out that massage accounts for 70% of services provided at spas. 70% is a lot! Knowing that most of your spa clients come to the spa for massage services, we can use this information to increase your earnings! It is not common for massage therapists to retail to their clients, but it should be!

If you are using products that you know, love, and trust, then you should have no problem selling them to your clients. Some examples of items you can offer your clients are essential oils, Bio-Freeze, aromatherapy candles, hot/cold packs, lotions...the list can go on. Body care should definitely be part of your retail display along with the various skin care items.

A great way to inform your client of products that you can offer them is to use them in the services and educate the client on the use of the product as well. The more knowledgeable you are about your retail products, the easier it will be to offer to your clients, which leads to increased profits for your business!

Great Retail Items for Massage:
Essential Oils
Candles
Biofreeze
Boca Terry Robes
Hot & Cold Packs

All-Natural Massage - Santa Barbara Massage Creams

If you're looking for something new and natural to bring to your massage services, the Santa Barbara Massage Creams are perfect for you! It has all the benefits of olive oil, bees wax, and coconut oil, mixed with the healing properties of essential oils. This massage cream offers a nice resistance that allows the therapist to penetrate deeply into the tissues for deep tissue style massages, but its smooth and luxurious feel makes it perfect for lighter Swedish styles. Only a small amount is needed, so the container lasts a long time and it won't leave your clients feeling oily afterwards. The Santa Barbara Massage Cream comes in four different scents, as well as unscented. This is really great if you like to use natural products and also like to incorporate aromatherapy into your services!

Benefits:
  • Olive Oil: Used by the ancient Greeks because of its healing properties and effects on the skin.
  • Bees Wax: Makes it so you only have to use a little, and clients do not end the session feeling oily. This is what turns the cream into a solid when it is in the jar.
  • Coconut Oil: What gives the cream an excellent glide while maintaining a good resistance for deeper work.
Scents:
  • Lavender: Balancing, soothing, and calming. It eases the appearance of wrinkles, helps prevent scarring, and relieves muscle pain and headaches.
  • Ylang Ylang and Orange: Sedating. Counters depression, anger, and fear. This cream is good for problem skin.
  • Clary Sage and Lavender: Eases muscles tightness, reduces nervous tension, and eliminates mental fatigue. Eases the appearance of wrinkles and helps prevent scarring. Relieves muscle pain and headaches.
  • Eucalyptus: Stimulating, invigorating, refreshing, and reduces fatigue and tension.
Each scent is available in 8 oz. and 32 oz. sizes. However, the Unscented is only available in 8 oz.

Carrying Your Products With Ease

As a massage therapist who primarily does home and business-based appointments, I'm always on the lookout for products to make lugging my supplies around easy. The problem has always been finding something that was large enough for sheets and blankets in the colder months that also had enough smaller compartments to carry different lotions and accessories without them getting crushed.

Deluxe Massage Tote Features many small compartments
to fit everything a mobile massage therapist needs!
Finally the powers that be have created the perfect tote! The Deluxe Massage Tote has everything any travelling therapist could want. Plenty of room for sheets and a blanket as well as different compartments for lotions, an appointment book, towels, water, music or anything else you might need. It also has a flat bottom so you don't have to worry about things getting bunched up or damaged.

It also has a shoulder strap that comes off so you can either carry it by hand or over the shoulder if you are carrying a table or other items as well.

This is by far one of my favorite new products here at Pure Spa Direct and I'm sure it will be for many on-the-go therapists as well!

The Benefits Of Ice Combined With Heat

As a massage therapist, how many times have clients come to you with a sore or pulled muscle, exclaiming they put heat on the area, but felt no relief, or the heat made it worse? What about client who let you know they put heat on the area....for an hour?

I can't tell you how many times clients have told me they thought heat was the cure-all for sore or tight muscles. As therapists, I believe it is our job to not only provide relief and comfort to our clients but to also educate them.

A great method for many acute muscle pain situations is utilizing a combination of cold and hot therapy. I simply advise my clients to use ice for 10 minutes followed by 10 minutes of heat and end with an additional 10 minutes of ice. The initial icing begins to calm spasms down, the heat increases fresh blood supply and nutrients to the area, and the final icing calms the area back down again. By repeating this a few times a day from the onset of pain for a few days, I have found a reduction in discomfort and healing time. As a result, my clients are happy, pain free and have learned how to better take care of themselves when they aren't able to see me.

By educating our clients on even the smallest things, especially when it's a home relief situation they see how much you are invested in them as a person, not just as a client.

Pure Spa Direct is your ultimate source for all of your massage needs, including HOT and COLD therapy products! You can also increase your bottom line by retailing hot and cold packs to your clients. Check out our huge selection today, and see how Pure Spa can save you time and money by consolidating your ordering!

Massage Therapists! Save Your Hands with Thumbsavers!

The holidays are almost over and everyone is going to be looking to "De-stress, De-toxify, and Relax." Myself included! The Holiday Season can be such a wonderful time of year, but can also be very stressful and taxing on our bodies. For this reason, January is an excellent time to run massage specials....invite your clients to help re-cover!

Massage Therapy is a very arduous job, and can be psychically challenging as a full-time profession. A lot of upper body strength is required to do a good job. Day after day of performing massages can lead to arthritis, aching fingers, and wrist pain. To help make your job easier, I learned from a client that swears by, and highly recommends the Thumbsavers!

Thumbsavers can be used a crutch to save your fingers. They can be worn on either hand or both, to provide even pressure to the client while minimizing the effort required by your fingers. They are interchangeable with the thumb, middle finer and index finger for a wide variety of massage applications.

Thumbsavers are available for both men and women. Check them out on Pure Spa Direct, by clicking on the links below, and start saving your fingers right away!
Have you you tried and loved the Thumbsavers before?
