Scent or No Scent, That Is The Question

Many clients will ask what the most popular scents are at various times during the year. While it is incredibly important to have the right scent(s) to boost business and create a mood, it's also important to remember the power of unscented.

There is a good chunk of people who either are allergic or sensitive to scents, or flat out don't enjoy them for one reason or another. Do you have unscented options for your treatments? Do you have a "scent free" area for clients with severe sensitivities or who may be experiencing migraine symptoms?

Why not ask clients or send out an email poll about it? Get their thoughts on having a scent free section or if there are ever times they would prefer to have an option of scented or unscented. The worst that will happen is they have zero opinion. For those clients who DO have a preference, it will make a huge impression on them by asking....and accommodating their responses.

From massages to nail services, sometimes a simple option can make all the difference!

Transitioning To Fall and Winter!

We've been speaking with many clients the last few weeks about their fall menus as well as the upcoming holiday season. While it may seem far off, it will be here before you know it!

Here is one of my all time favorite recipe combinations for the fall and/or winter season that can be used in a multitude of services:

Cinnamon Comfort (or whatever name you'd like to use!)
To start off, create the mood. Fill a diffuser with water and add in the following essential oils: 2 drops of Clove, 5 drops of Cinnamon, and 4 drops of Ginger -  for every ounce of water.

For massages, mani/pedi treatments etc, you can make the following massage oil, cream or lotion:

In a mixing bowl,  mix 4 oz. of unscented oil, cream, or lotion with the following essential oils:  1 drop of Clove, 3 drops of Cinnamon, and 2 drops of Ginger and mix well.

For a cinn-ful body scrub/polish:
In a mixing bowl, mix 8 oz. of unscented salt or sugar with 4 tablespoons of a carrier oil and mix well.  Add in the following essential oils: 5 drops of Clove, 10 drops of Cinnamon, and 5 drops of Ginger.

Very easy to make and use - you can even get sample jars or bottles to give your clients any extra to take home!

Showerless Slimming Service For Summer!

Try saying that three times fast!

Seriously (I can't help it!), slimming treatments are always a hot menu item during the summer. I've spoken to a few clients who were shying away from stepping out of their normal menu due to not having a shower. Not having a shower does not mean you have to lose out on offering services - you just need to get a little creative :)

The #1 seller across the board for retail and use in a variety of services is the Desert Mineral Detox Body Scrub Anti-Cellulite Formula (my personal fav as well!). Simple to use, natural ingredients, effective and you don't need a shower! If you have a spray bottle you can fill with water and some towels - there's no reason not to have this! Be sure to have a tester container for demoing on clients - once they feel how incredibly soft and smooth their skin feels immediately after using it, they will be running to the register and telling all of their friends.

Ultrasonic Cavitation Non-Surgical Liposuction Body Slimming Machine - great for clients as a package or series!

Remineralizing Body Masque - Slimming and Toning - another awesome one that you can use a spray bottle and towels to clean up!

Meishida Far Infrared Slenderizing Sauna Blanket - hot ticket item at spas across the world who offer slimming services!

With a little creativity and a variety of products, you can slim your clients and boost your profits!

Stop And Smell The Flowers While Boosting Business!

We've all heard some variation of "stop to smell the roses" at some point in time. While it usually refers to slowing down or being more aware to appreciate things, it can be beneficial for your business.

What flower menu options do you have? Are they customizable?
Offering services that utilize flower power (I tried to resist, I really did!) in some way is always popular with clients! Making it customizable is a way to stand out from your competition. Having a raw ingredient bar for clients is also a fun way to engage clients.
If you offer hydrotherapy, do you offer muslin bags to drop in (complimentary or as an add on!) that are filled with flowers and raw ingredients? Again, having clients choose their own (you can have a set of pre-filled ones -like these or make your own-to choose from or give them an empty muslin bag and send them to the raw bar!) will get clients talking (to you AND their friends/family/coworkers), increase likelihood of add on and retail sales.

When was the last time you changed the floral options?
Is lavender or rose the only scent you have (if your business is tied in to lavender or rose in any way, disregard!)? Your clients may be getting tired of the same old smells. Refresh their senses with some new scents. There are enough varieties out there to ensure you'll never get bored of them all. You can choose from individual oils or blends or even candles! Variety is key here, you never want your clients to be bored or complacent - you want them excited to see what's new every time they walk in your door.

With all this fresh new floral activity freshening up your menu and environment, your reawakened clients will be eager to try new things, buy more things and tell more people how awesome you are. As I have mentioned numerous times, it's the little things :)

New Mineral Baths From Keyano In Time For The Holidays!

Just in time for the holidays, the Keyano Mani/Pedi Minreal Bath is sure to be a successful addition to your winter menu.

If you are looking to stick to the traditional holiday scents, check out the pumpkin, pomegranate, cranberry and of course peppermint. If you are looking to mix it up, try a mango or coconut lime!

As with all of the other Keyano products, the scents are amazing (coconut lime is a best seller and the peppermint reminds me of the old Peppermint Patty commercials!)

Not to be outdone by the fragrances, these are excellent for softening skin, getting rid of fungus and strengthening nails.

Beat The Winter Blues With Desert Themes!

Maybe it's the cold weather here in New York, but my mind is on warm sunshine, ok more like desert heat but that could be my popsicle hands speaking :)

One idea that I always like and have seen clients have great success with, is incorporating treatments that are the opposite of what the weather is. In the summer, focus on arctic, cooling treatments. In the winter, think warm!

Client's are used to seeing tropical/island theme's however, desert themes (depending on your location) can be an unexpected hit! You can dedicate one treatment room for the theme, if you have the space. Bring in some small cactus plants, use "desert" colors like coral, tan, sage, reds etc, pick out some agave, lime or aloe infused products - even mojitos!

Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing!

Desert Mineral Detox Body Scrub - this is a no brainer! Our best selling scrub across the board for use in services and for retailing.

Sedona Mud - facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy - from the Southwest, red in color and chock full of minerals to detox in prep (and recovery from) for the holidays!

Desert Rain Incense Sticks
Aloe Vera Products
Hot Stones - perfect for winter!
Polar Fleece Blanket - Camel
Chocolate Sheets
Sage Sheets

Be sure to have a quality table warmer like the Samadhi-Pro by Earthlite available to ensure clients are nice and toasty!

Prep for Turkey Day with Holiday Pedicures!

Now that the excitement of Halloween has died down, Thanksgiving is almost here! Are you going to be offering any Thanksgiving nail specials to entice existing and attract new clients? Offering something new and different from your competition will have your clients ?

Here is a pedicure treatment to ease dry, tired feet whether your clients will be cooking, socializing or shopping!

Thanksgiving Pedicure - complete with a foot soak, masque and moisturizer

Foot Soak:
Add 8 drops of spearmint essential oil and 4 drops rosemary essential oil to your filled pedicure bowl or tub (you can easily make this more "manly" by using cedarwood or sandalwood instead of rosemary oil)

Foot Masque:
In a rubber mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of Sedona Mud Powder with 1 tablespoon of water and stir. Add in 1 teaspoon of clove powder and mix well. Add in 5 drops of spearmint essential oil followed by 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornmeal and mix well. As the mixture sits, the cornmeal may absorb the water, slowly add more as needed. Place the bowl into a hot towel cabi or mud warmer.

Moisturizer:
Combine 1/2 tablespoon whipped shea butter with 3 drops of spearmint and 2 drops rosemary essential oil (again, you can switch the rosemary oil for male clients if they prefer). Place the bowl into a hot towel cabi or mud warmer as well.

Soak the clients feet for 5-10 minutes after cleaning and disinfecting them. Apply the foot masque to one foot to just above the knee. Place a plastic liner and electric or herbal bootie over the foot before moving to the other leg/foot. Allow the masque to sit for 10 minutes before removing the bootie. Cut the tip of the liner to allow you to access the clients toes. Perform your regular pedicure procedure (check out the new polishes!) while the masque sits on the clients legs. Remove the liner and mixture when finished - hot towels work great for this! Finish off with the moisturizer, giving any excess to the client to take home.

Easy Tips To Boost Retail Sales This Holiday Season

Looking to really boost your retail sales? With the holidays quickly approaching now is a good time to take a look at the products you offer, along with these great ideas/tips to maximize your area and efforts!

When was the list time you changed the items you retail? I'm not saying ditch product lines or anything however, your clients can and will become bored with seeing the same items every time. Mix it up by throwing in some unique items to catch the eye. Things like Therapearls, salt lamps, raw mud soap, and the Desert Mineral Detox Body Scrub - Anti-Cellulite Formula (this is our most popular retail item!)

What type of music are you playing in your business? Do you have different music for your rooms and main area? Having more upbeat music by the register (I'm not suggesting blasting dance music or making a drastic change) has been shown to energize clients after their services, putting them more in that buying mood.

It's no secret that impulse buying is the easiest way to boost sales. If you don't have something little, budget friendly and useful by the cash register, you're missing out on the easiest of sales! Things like the wet brush squirts, lip balms (Eco-Fin body balm is phenomenal!), tweezer displays, hair ties even facial/body tanners set by the checkout are top sellers!

Do you have any lighting in your retail area? Back lighting shelves is a great idea however, just being sure there is adequate lighting may be enough to bring attention back to the area.

Do you have pricing on your retail items? Most people will not purchase an item if there is no price attached to it. They may feel uncomfortable asking the price, not purchasing after knowing the price (whether they were just curious or can't afford it) or just not even bother asking at all. Take a few extra minutes to label your retail items. It doesn't have to be an unattractive stock label, you can create them to fit your style.

This one I found interesting - is there a mirror in your retail area? No matter what you are retailing, people like to see themselves. Even a handheld discreet one can make the difference....a $3.00 investment that can really pay off!

Be sure to have "tester" products out for your clients. People are more likely to buy items they can touch, smell and try out. Be sure to label the bottles "tester" just so there is no confusion!

Even if you change up your retail area twice a year, it may be enough to keep those profits on the rise. If you're not sure what you want to retail, give us a call!!!

Combining Services For Better Results

Is your staff running into difficulty or resistance when up-selling complimentary services to clients?

Sometimes clients may not realize the reasons you are offering them additional services, aside from what they request. They may just be thinking you are trying to boost profits - which while that is true, it's not (should not) the only reason you are. The benefits of combining services to enhance their results is what they need to be made are of.

A great example is a client coming in for a body treatment. Going into winter, detox and cellulite treatments should start to increase. A client coming in for a detoxifying body scrub should also be getting a massage. A client coming in for a massage, should be getting a body scrub with dry brushing. Combining services like these enhances the overall result including increased relaxation. Explaining to your clients how dry brushing and a using a scrub like the Desert Mineral Detox prior to a massage will soften the skin, improve relaxation and help flush toxins in addition to the massage benefits.

It's not limited to body treatments/massages, clients coming in for their regular anti-aging facial should also be coming in for microcurrent treatments regularly to enhance the anti aging effects of the facial.

You already know which of your services pair well together, you just need to carefully explain this to your clients. Having them aware that you have their best interests and results in mind is key!

How You and Biofreeze Can Conquer This Winter

I really don't want to be thinking about this, but Mother Nature decided to bring it to my attention. We had a random snow flurry here in New York over this past weekend. Before we know it, we'll be needing to shovel driveways and walkways, leading to some cranky muscles.

You want to start planting those winter massage seeds once the fall menu excitement starts to slow down. Getting your clients in for massage BEFORE they strain muscles from shoveling or sledding is key to a happier winter season. Make sure your clients are aware of the benefits of massage on their muscles and joints, and how it can help with winter pains (even from the cold weather, I know my old joints are not fans of the cold). Get them in the habit of increasing their sessions during snowy seasons to get them through pain free!

Also be sure to not only retail items like Biofreeze, but to be using them in your services. Ending a massage with Biofreeze on problem areas is a great way to keep your client feeling the benefits.
