Hot & Spicy Scrub!

Just in time for the cooler fall weather, here's a treatment recipe to indulge your client's senses!

Hot & Spicy Scrub
(I'm confident you'll have a more creative name!)

In a rubber mixing bowl, mix 1/4 cup Sucanat Sugar with 1/2 teaspoon of  Ginger Root Powder. Add 6 teaspoons of Grapeseed Oil and 6 drops of cinnamon essential oil and mix well. Place the bowl in a mud warmer, hot towel cabinet or a large stainless bowl of how water.

Start off the treatment with dry brushing (include it in the price of the treatment, or offer it as an add-on beneficial treatment!)  and apply the scrub according to your regular protocol (don't forget to wrap the client in plastic wrap and cover with a thermal blanket to increase the effects!). Leave on for about 15 - 20 minutes. This is the perfect time for an add-on scalp massage! Little touches like an herbal eye pack or cool pack will stand out to your clients as well. Remove the blankets and sheeting and have the client shower if you do not yet have a Vichy shower. You can also use warm damp towels and a spray bottle to remove.

Be sure to have some hot apple cider or tea on hand to complete the experience!

Say Goodbye To Dry Winter Skin Before Spring!

It's the perfect time of the year to start planning, and preparing your Spring menu. Here is a great exfoliating and hydrating "recipe" to get your creative juices flowing!

Spring Fling Body Wrap
***gentle exfoliating treatment that also soothes, nourishes and protects the skin***

You will be using two different mud mixtures to swirl on the clients skin!

Prep:

In a large rubber mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup Sedona Mud, 1 tablespoon whipped shea butter, 1 drop ginger essential oil and 1/2 tablespoon of honey powder, and mix well.

In another larger rubber mixing bowl, mix 1/2 cup Moor Mud, 1 tablespoon whipped shea butter and 1 drop ginger essential oil, and mix well.

Place both bowls in a mud warmer, large stainless steel bowl filled with hot water, or a hot towel cabinet so the mixtures will be warm when applied.

Treatment:

Remove the bowls from the warmer - mud should be around 110-120 degrees. Using a body mask brush, apply the sedona mud mixture in a swirl pattern on the back, back of the arms and legs. Apply the moor mud mixture in a swirl pattern in the spaces between the sedona mud stripes. Have the client flip over, and repeat the process until the entire body is covered with the mud stripes.

Wrap the client in plastic wrap and a thermal blanket, and allow them to relax for 15-20 minutes. Now is a great time for an add on service like a scalp massage or Eco-Fin!

Remove the blanket, open the plastic sheet, and sprinkle the stomach with 1/4 teaspoon of ground pumice. Using about 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil, gently massage the stomach and mud streaked arms/legs one at a time. Have the client flip over again, and repeat the pumice and coconut oil massage. If you have a vichy shower, drench the client with warm water for 10 minutes. Have them turn over one more time and repeat the shower process. If you do not have a vichy shower, have them shower or use warm moist towels to remove the mud.

Be sure to retail sunscreen such as Burnout to your clients to help protect their glowing, hydrated skin!

Sleep Deprived Skin & How You Can Help

Sleep seems to be one of those things that takes the back burner these days. With work, school, family and more, the amount of time we sleep gets less and less. We all know sleep is essential for our health, it's important to remind clients that it is important for their skin as well.

When we sleep, our bodies slow down to repair and regenerate itself. While we are dreaming of white sandy beaches and winning the lottery, our skin is able to increase the production of collagen; making getting quality sleep very important to the health and appearance of our skin.

Sleep deprived skin can result in things like dark circles under the eyes, puffiness, dry or dehydrated skin as well as a variety of skin infections (lack of sleep weakens our immune system!)

Do you go over your client's sleeping habits/patterns on their intake form? Are you checking in with them to see how they are sleeping? Explaining to your clients the importance of sleep in direct relation to healthy skin will garner a great conversation! You not only show them you are thinking of them as a whole, you also have a good opportunity to offer quality retail items.

Depending on their sleep habits and needs, you can offer everything from relaxing essential oils, candles, sleep masks and music to help them unwind and get a good nights sleep. You can also take this time to offer sunblock, hydrating moisturizers and more!

Soothing Summer Body Treatment!

As we near the end of June, I've had quite a few conversations with clients gearing up for their summer menu options. Many have asked about body treatments for skin that has been overexposed to the sun. Aside from having quality sunscreen and lip protection to retail, here is a great body mask to help calm sun scorched skin.

Sun Skin Saver Body Mask
*this mask is soothing and hydrating to help calm and nourish skin that has been overexposed to the sun

In a rubber mixing bowl, mix 3T Kaolin powder, 1 T Buttermilk Powder and 1 T of honey powder until combines. Add in 2 T of Aloe Gel and mix well. Place the bowl in a mud warmer, hot towel cabi or in another bowl filled with warm water.

Prep the client as you normally do for body treatments and apply the mask using a brush or your hands starting at the feet. Make sure the temperature of the mix is not too hot so warm that it causes more pain to the already sensitive skin!

Leave the mask on for 20 minutes before removing. Follow up with your favorite hydrating lotion like the Alchimie Forever Daily Defense Cream SPF 23 or Alchimie Forever Kantic Calming Cream !

This soothing mask will have your clients sighing with relief!

Yummy Skincare! The Beautifying Benefits of Cocoa Butter

Looking for a skincare product that's so delicious you kind of just want to eat it? I'm sure your clients are too, and while I definitely do not recommend eating our cocoa butter products right out of the jar (please don't), I have a great list of its beautifying benefits that will make your clients keep coming back for seconds (to put on their skin, of course).

Cocoa butter is made from whole cocoa beans that are fermented, roasted, and then separated from their hulls. The remaining residue is.. voila.. cocoa butter! Check out some of the beautifying benefits of cocoa butter below as well as products we have for your spa that your clients will love!

Hydrating

Due to its fatty acid and nutrient content, cocoa butter is great for moisturizing dry skin and keeping it that way. Are you in need of a new retail product you can suggest to your clients? You should try out our Queen Helene Cocoa Face and Body Butter Cream! Aside form the attractive packaging, your clients will fall in love with the way it smells and makes their skin feel!

Soothing

Cocoa butter is known for its healing properties because it's so rich in nutrients. It can be helpful for your clients with irritated skin or even eczema. Try adding some cocoa butter into your next facial! Our Cocoa Butter Facial Scrub by Queen Helene is a great exfoliate to incorporate into your skin services (I told you their packaging was cute)!

Healing

The healing properties of cocoa butter are amazing! Due to its high antioxidant content, cocoa butter has the ability to greatly reduce the appearance of scars, minor scratches, and even stretch marks.

Healthy Hair

It's not just for your skin, either! Cocoa butter is hydrating for dry and damaged hair, and it's also great for strengthening it. Incorporate a Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning Treatment into your salon services using our Organic Pure Cocoa Butter. Your clients will appreciate the scent, as well as their new, healthy hair.

It's Not Just Slime! The Beauty Benefits of Algae

Algae is commonly seen as that annoying, gross slime that we try to remove from our pools each year. However, did you know that tons of beauty products are actually loaded with it ? But waiiit!.. before you go running to your spa pantry to impulsively throw away all of your products, let's take a look at the benefits this seemingly gross sludge actually has to offer! According to an article I read on it, there are plenty. Since beach season is on the horizon, you might want to consider adding an algae face mask treatment to your spa! It's a great seasonal treatment your clients will love.

What are the beautifying benefits of algae? Check them out below!

Anti-aging
Due to its high protein and fatty acid content, algae can help boost collagen production which keeps the skin elastic and firm - all characteristics of youth, which can help in anti-aging. We have a great Seaweed Algae Peel Off Mask by Pour Elle Labs which can be an effective product to use during an algae facial treatment at your spa.

Hydrating

Because algae is a plant and water-based by nature, its components can help to moisturize and even purify the skin. This can also reduce the appearance of fine lines an wrinkles because of its strong hydrating properties.

Anti-bacterial

Research has found that blue-green algae has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, which makes it effective in treating your clients who are prone to acne, eczema, and even psoriasis! To get started on your algae facial treatments, you might want to consider purchasing our Warm Clay and Algae Masque Kit by Amber!

Convinced that this sea plant is more than just annoying green pool stuff?! Click here to see all of our algae products to get your spa prepared for a beautifying deep sea treatment just in time for summer :)
