Warm Up Your Clients With Detoxifying Ginger

It's a cold rainy day here in New York, a perfect day to dream of far away warm places. Here is a great warming, detoxifying body wrap going into the fall/winter season. This soothing and detoxifying wrap will help tighten and tone skin while leaving the client feeling uplifted!

Ginger Rose Body Wrap
-This treatment includes a rub, oil and moisturizer-

Body Rub:
Crush up 1 T of rose petals in a mortar and pestle. In a medium rubber mixing bowl, mix 3 T shea butter, 1/2 t rose hips powder, 1/2 t clove powder, 1/2 t ginger powder and the rose petals. Add in 2 drops ginger essential oil and 10 drops mandarin essential oil and mix well. Place the bowl into a hot towel cabi, mud warmer or stainless bowl filled with hot water.

Facial Massage Oil:
Mix 5 drops mandarin essential oil with 1 t coconut oil, blend well.

Moisturizer:
In a rubber mixing bowl, mix 2 T coconut butter, 1 drop ginger essential oil and 8 drops mandarin essential oil, mix well and place in a warmer.

After dry brushing the client, apply the body rub starting at the feet. Continue as you normally apply your body wraps and allow the client to rest for 15-20 minutes. While they are resting with the body wrap on, perform a facial and scalp massage with the massage oil. Remove the wrap using your vichy shower, regular shower or remove with warm moist towels to remove the remaining product. Finish off with the ginger moisturizer to lock everything in!

Fall Isn't Just for Pumpkins!

Pumpkin lattes, pumpkin oatmeal, pumpkin beer, pumpkin body cream, pumpkin tampons (wait these actually DONT exist, and should never)...by the time October hits, almost every retail product and food item is associated with a pumpkin. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed my PSL from Starbucks this morning, my apartment is already stocked with pumpkin candles and pumpkin body cream, and cans of pumpkin puree are in my kitchen waiting to be made into festive pumpkiny treats. I think it's time to give the pumpkins a break (at least for this blog post) and highlight another festive fall scent that is often overlooked: Ginger Red Currant!

If you haven't already started incorporating fall scents into your spa products yet, what are you waiting for? I'm sure you're fully stocked on pumpkin, but have you considered Ginger Red Currant as a new scent to add to your spa? The smooth fruity scent of red currant combined with spicy ginger will make your clients excited for the upcoming cooler months as well as the holidays that are rapidly approaching!

We have an amazing product in stock now for fall. Check out our Maxim Pedi Redi Red Ginger & Currant scrub! This scrub soften calluses and cuticles and will remove dead skin while significantly reducing scrubbing time for the pedicurist. This specially formulated product contains the delicious essential and fragrance oils of red currant and ginger. Get this in your spa for the upcoming months, and your clients will thank you!

Fun Fall Body Wrap Idea - Gingersnaps!

Yes, it's that time already! Fall is quickly approaching and many clients are looking at their fall menus. Aside from the awesome pumpkin and cranberry ideas, here's one that may surprise and delight your clients.

Ginger Body Wrap  - includes a scrub, wrap and moisturizer!

For the scrub:
In a large rubber mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of Organic Sucanat Sugar, 2 teaspoons honey powder, 3 drops sweet almond oil and 3 drops of cinnamon essential oil. Place the bowl in a mud warmer, hot towel cabinet or even a stainless bowl filled with hot water.

For the wrap:
In a large rubber mixing bowl, combine 3 tablespoons rhassoul clay, 1 teaspoon ginger root powder, 1 teaspoon clove powder and 2 teaspoons honey powder. Add in 1 tablespoons of water and mix well. If the mix is too dry, add a little more water until the desired consistency. Place the bowl in a warmer.

For the moisturizer:
In a small mixing bowl or beaker, mix 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil, 3 drops lemon essential oil, 1 drop ginger essential oil and 1 drop of clove essential oil. Place in a warmer.

There you go, perform the treatment as you normally do! As always, you can offer ginger snacks and teas! Have some sample sized jars available to give the client any left over moisturizer!

Essential Oils - With an Emphasis on Essential!

Ah, essential oils - probably one of my favorite spa products out there! But what makes them so great? I love how each individual oil can be used for various soothing and supposedly curative effects. While essential oils are "essential" in the sole reason that they contain the "essence" of the plant's fragrance of which they're derived from, it is important to note that different oils have different properties. Certain oils are essential for various types of aliments! Do you have enough essentials for all types of clients, especially those who receive deep tissue massages? If not, I've got you covered. See below for what I mean, and why these "essential" oils take on a whole new meaning!

Most your clients probably sit throughout the day and then cram their exercise into one quick session. This can cause excess strain on their muscles, causing spasms and inflammation. While massages definitely help to ease the pain, certain essential oils can facilitate healing as well according to an article I recently read.

Reduce Inflammation

We carry any essential oil you might need here at Pure Spa Direct. However, some are more popular than others due to their aroma and abilities to aid in soothing inflamed muscles. Peppermint is great for your clients with inflamed and overheated muscles, as it has a cooling effect. Rosemary also reduces inflammation due to its astringent properties. This can help stimulate circulation and increase blood flow to the muscles, bringing down inflammation. We have a variety of peppermint and rosemary essential oils to choose from!

Warm Muscles

While peppermint has a cooling effect, other oils have a heating effect. Juniper and ginger oils tend to warm overworked muscles. They contain natural analgesics which can help to block pain - perfect for your clients who are athletes and looking for a deep tissue massage!

Relax Muscles

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? It's a good chances that your clients who are stressed out have tighter muscles. Both chamomile and lavender essential oils can help calm down your clients who are extra stressed and hold tension in their muscles. They are personally my favorite, as I love their scent.

Click here to see all of our essential oils, and stock up on what your missing to help your clients in need. They are also perfect for retailing to your clients after each session!

White Is The New Green Tea

It's no secret that green tea offers a variety of health benefits ranging anywhere from weight loss to anti-stress relief. Health stores and wellness boutiques alike are implementing its powerful effects on health, beauty, and even anti-aging properties. I am all about green tea, don't get me wrong!.. but did you know that white tea is actually even more powerful than it's older sister?! I say older sister because green tea and white tea actually come from the same plant, the Camellia Sinensis. However white tea is harvested at a younger age, hence its stronger effects. It is less processed than green tea, allowing it to retain a higher antioxidant content than green. Higher antioxidants = stronger effects! The reason green tea gets all the credit is because it has been studied extensively, it's more common, and it's easier and less expensive than white.

We're putting the lime light on white tea with a variety of products that contain this anti-oxidant rich herb here at Pure Spa Direct! These products are a fun way to change up your normal green tea treatments you offer or retail at your spa, or to simply add a new variety of tea products! Check below for some of my favorites..

We just got in this white tea and ginger sugar scrub here at Pure Spa Direct, and I could not be more excited! This is actually a 3-in-1 formula that exfoliates, cleanses, and moisturizes. It's perfect for spa treatments including pedicures. Change up your pedicure menu by adding a white tea spa pedicure that will certainly intrigue your clients from the normal green tea pedicure they're used to. Its attractive package design is also great for retailing!

To go along with the sugar scrub, we also have these adorable mini effervescent soak scrubs that are great for retailing! We also have the large soak scrubs which can be used for professional treatments in your spa. These bath bombs are great to implement in your new white tea spa pedicure, as they replenish lost moisture and promote a youthful appearance, especially for hands and feet.

Do you offer beverages to your clients? If not, we have a variety of white tea options that can be a great feature to add to your spa! Click here to view the various types of white tea we have and get your clients hooked on this anti-oxidant rich beverage!

Ginger Oil For Pain Relief

It's no secret if you read my blog posts that I adore essential oils and all things aromatherapy. What I love most, aside from lovely aromas, is the therapeutic benefits associated with the oils.

I was just reading an article in Massage Magazine on a study done on the effectiveness of ginger oil combined with Swedish massage or traditional Thai massage on chronic lower back pain. The group conducting the study monitored both the short and long term effectiveness of the ginger oil and compared it against the baseline pain level at the start. Both modalities (although Swedish proved to be more effective) led to significant improvement in pain levels and disability.

Ginger oil is also known for increasing circulation making it a great oil for sports massage and client's with poor circulation.

Want to give this natural pain relief combo a try? Here are a few options to get you started:

ESS® Ginger Pure Essential Oil
Lotus Touch Ginger Essential Oil

Like making your own lotions, oils, scrubs?

SPA PANTRY Ginger Root Powder / 1 Lb
Organic Ginger Root
Organic Ginger Root Powder

I never tried ginger oil with any of my clients, but I am excited to give it a try!

Warm Up As The Weather Cools Off

Fall is quickly approaching, which means the weather is going to start getting cooler in many areas. A great way to market on the weather changes is by offering seasonal menu items. One of my favorites is ginger. Ginger is a great warming herb which is always a nice treat as the weather cools off.

Ginger is also a great ingredient for skin care due to its anti-aging properties---as I've said before, who doesn't want to look younger?!?

Ginger also has great anti-inflammatory properties as well! There are many articles floating around the internet praising the benefits of ginger, but the best way to understand it is by trying it for yourself!

Here are some great products you can add to your service menu to utilize ginger:

SPA PANTRY Ginger Root Powder / 1 Lb.

Soothing TouchBrown Sugar Scrub / Mango Ginger

Organic Ginger Root / 1 Lb. by Body Concepts

Detoxifying Ginger Mask

As in many of my other posts, I'm a huge fan of ingredient themes. Here are some great little additions you can offer to go along with ginger treatments either as a thank you or as an add on. I know some business owners who offer a particular mask for price, each individual complimentary item for an additional price and  finally a package for a more expensive price that includes everything or a pick and choose product option to customize the package.

Here are some additional items that can be used in packages and/or retailed to clients:

Ginger Tea

Ginger Essential Oils

Ginger Candles

Organic Candy Drops - Ginger Zest

Organic Lollipops - Ginger Zest

Seasonal menu items are always a big hit in every niche in the industry and are a great way to increase profits and get clients to try new treatments!
