Easy Fall Add On -> Dry Brushing!

Exfoliation should be an integral part of your clients skin care routine however, not all clients heed your advice or remember it!

By simply offering a dry brush add to your massage services, you can increase profits, ensure your clients skin is properly exfoliated and take their massage experience to a new level - all for under $5!

If you haven't dry brushed before a massage yet - try it. It's easy to explain the benefits however, it's effortless to convey how amazing it felt once you've tried it. If a client can sense/feel through you how much of a difference YOU felt, they will quickly ask to try it. Heck, you can even offer the first one complimentary to get them hooked!

They will be amazed at how relaxing the dry brushing feels itself, followed by how luxurious the oil/lotion feels going on after! I highly recommend a whipped butter!

Face Fruit - Natural Exfoliation

Exfoliation is not something new, as you and your clients are well aware of.  There are different types of products that can be used to exfoliate the skin. Are you utilizing the power of fruit enzymes for exfoliation?

Fruit enzymes are particularly good for clients with oily and mature skin types.  Fruit enzymes help gently remove (digest) dry, dull, superficial layers of the skin to leave a smoother, more youthful look.

The top two that seems to always be flying out of the warehouse are papaya and pumpkin - perfect for going into the fall season!

The Papaya Purifying Enzyme Masque by June Jacobs is always a great choice. Paraben and preservative free, the natural fruit enzymes combined with things like sweet almond oil and borage help improve the look and feel of the skin. It's available in back bar and retail sizes, be sure to have some retail sizes on hand!

The Papaya Enzyme Peel by Ayur-Medic Skincare is another option that is chock full of papaya goodness as well as lactic, salicylic, and acetic acid to help clear the skin.

If you prefer mixing your own, take a look at the Exfoliating Papaya Enzyme Mask / 1 Lb. Bulk by uQ. This pairs well with the Fruit Acid Peel Ampoules by uQ!

Just like the papaya, the Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Masque by June Jacobs is a top seller. Full of essential fatty acids, vitamins A and C, as well as zinc, this helps exfoliate and aid in the healing process - all leaving the skin glowing!

Not to be outdone, Ayur-Medic has a phenomenal Pumpkin Exfoliant that is effective yet gentle!

For those clients that seem to have skin that is overly oily or just needs a gentle, effective exfoliation, be sure to have some fruit enzyme exfoliating products
on hand!

Bring Dry, Lifeless Hands Back to Life! - Importance of Skincare for the Hands

One of the most overlooked parts of the body when it comes to skincare is the hands. While we all focus on facial and body skincare, we often neglect the hands. The hands are the one body part that is exposed the most to the sun and harsh climates - almost as much as the face. Skincare of the hands is an important part of the overall health of your skin and you'll want to remember treat them just as you would any other part of the body.

In harsh weather conditions, the skin on the hands can become dry and rough. The winter is starting to slowly disappear and this is a great time to offer hand repair treatments. You can offer them as specials and/or add on services also! It is a good idea to recommend at home night treatments to your clients and offer retail items for that as well. Treatment of the hands should include exfoliation, moisturizing, protection and prevention to maintain healthy skin. Keep in mind that it is super important to exfoliate, as the dead skin cells will prevent any moisture treatments from being more effective.

Exfoliation - Exfoliating is best 2-3 times a week.

Exfoliation - An Important Step in Your Facial and Body Services!

Exfoliation is an extremely important and very essential part of your facial services. Build up of dead skin cells will cause skin to look dry and dull and proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective. Exfoliation is a necessary step and will produce a better end result to your facials. Better results will keep your clients coming back!

Not only is exfoliation critical during facials, it is also important that your clients are paying attention to other areas as well. Other areas like hands, feet, and even the scalp also need to be rid of dead skin cells in order to keep the skin in its best condition!

Hands
Dead skin cells build up on the hands, causing them to look dry and dull. Even the nail beds need to be attended to since they’re inclined to become ragged and develop tears and hangnails.

Feet
The skin on your feet is thick and it can be hard to keep hydrated. If socks are not worn regularly, the skin on the feet may be drier than normal and cracked, especially along the heels. In order to lock in moisture, it’s essential to remove the dead, white skin.

Scalp
Styling products lead to buildup, which makes the hair look dull, limp and hard to style. Exfoliating the scalp removes debris, unplugs logged follicles, and gets rid of excess sebum and dead skin to increase circulation and hair growth.

Lips
Dead skin tends to accumulate on the lips, leading to dryness and chapping. When the lips aren't smooth or free of dead skin, they can look dried out.

Chest
The skin on the chest is home to hundreds of pores, which produce as much oil as the face and back

Just Sisal While You Work!

No, I did not spell "whistle" wrong, I am writing about  Sisal!

What is  Sisal?  According to Wikipedia:
"Sisal (Agave sisalana) is an agave that yields a stiff fibre traditionally used in making twine, rope and also dartboards. The term may refer either to the plant or the fibre, depending on context. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as sisal hemp because hemp was for centuries a major source for fibre, so other fibres were sometimes named after it."
You might be asking yourself, OK Doug, what do Agave plant ropes have to do with spas/salons?  Well, it turns out that Sisal fibers are ALSO used to make a variety of exfoliation products... sponges, soap sacks, mitts, gloves, pads, brushes and more!

Sisal is used for deep exfoliation and massage of the skin, and it is frequently used dry. This type of rough exfoliation may take some getting used to, but it is a good way to slough off dead skin and reveal fresher, softer skin underneath.   Sisal is also very commonly used wet, in the shower (in a standard shower or during a Vichy Shower treatment), for slightly more gentle exfoliation.

Whether the Sisal is used wet or dry, it is best to begin with a gentle scrubbing until the skin becomes more used to the exfoliation of the sisal bristles, and then more pressure can be applied for a deeper exfoliating massage. Sisal can be used on the back as well as other rough places, such as the knees or feet, or even all over the body for a full-body exfoliating treatment. Sisal should not be used on more sensitive areas like the face.

Because the Sisal may also be able to improve circulation, some recommend always brushing in a circular motion, toward the heart. One may use a sisal brush every day, once a week, or as needed... any use can provide skin benefits!

So remember, if you offer exfoliation treatments or are looking for great retail items for home use... "Just Sisal While You Work!"

Papaya Is A Great Exfoliation Fruit!

Papaya is a great product to use on your skin to clean pores and to rid the skin of imperfections.  A Papaya is rich in Vitamins A, C and E and other anti-oxidants that can help in giving skin the moisture and protection it needs to stay healthy.

Papaya is rich in Vitamins A, C, and E,
making it great for your skin!
Papain is an enzyme in Papaya that helps exfoliate your skin in the most gentle and natural way.  Its purpose is to break down surface dead skin cells and make them easier to remove. Papain acts as a exfoliation agent in this case. Since Papain is a natural ingredient, it doesn't dry out your skin as it exfoliates, instead it maintains moisture balance. Since your skin maintains its moisture, it looks younger. Papain is also antibacterial, increases immune response, and allows more oxygen into the cell area around the pores.

Here at Pure Spa Direct, we have a number of Papaya masks, peels, and treatments that you may want to consider incorporating into your services for clients who yearn for gentle exfoliation:

Check them out, as well as our other great products that contain Papaya!

Trending Now for Estheticians: Ultrasonic Skin Scrubber

One of the most important components of a facial is a deep clean. Clients who come to your spa for regular facials crave a deeper cleaning of their pores and skin than they can achieve at home. What is an effective way of giving your clients what they want? Using an Ultrasonic skin scrubber, that's how!

Every day, new skin cells are formed at the bottom layer of the epidermis to replace the skin cells we shed from the top layer. The upper layers of the epidermis are often clogged with dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, causing the skin to lose radiance and appear dull. Ultrasonic skin scrubbers (often referred to as "skin scrubbers" or "skin spatulas") utilize ultrasound waves to speed up the natural exfoliation process, loosening and removing this oil, dirt, and other cellular debris from the pores on the surface of the skin. This is a deep exfoliation process which often results in glowing, more youthful-looking skin.

Following exfoliation, switch your skin scrubber to the Sonophoresis mode for maximum penetration of your ampoules, toner and moisturizers of choice!

Benefits of Ultrasonic Skin Scrubber:

  • Improves appearance of Acne
  • Removes Blackheads
  • Diminishes Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Improves Collagen and Elastin production for Firming and Tightening
  • Allows for Deeper Penetration of Skin Care Products

Skin scrubbers are safe for a wide variety of skin types, including skin with:

  • Sensitive Skin
  • Rosacea
  • Acne
  • Aging Skin
Pure Spa Direct offers a wide variety of Ultrasonic Skin Scrubbers, from tabletop units for estheticians in spas and salons to portable units for estheticians on the go! This is one piece of equipment no esthetician should be without. Check out our most popular units below:

Stimulate Your Menu by Adding a Dry-Brushing Service or Add-on!

Its a New Year, and I am sure all of you spa owners are looking to stimulate your service menu! An inexpensive service to add (or add-on treatment to offer!) is dry skin brushing.

It is well known that the skin is the largest organ in the human body, and taking good care of your skin helps with overall health. Dry skin brushing is a great way to exfoliate, improve circulation, combat cellulite, and more. While this is a treatment clients can perform on themselves at home, getting started by having a professional treatment in your spa is a great jump-start! Not to mention....it is a whole lot more relaxing to have someone else dry brush you than attempting to dry brush your own body!

Benefits of Dry Brushing
  • Exfoliates dead skin cells
  • Improves circulation by stimulating top layers of skin
  • Helps boost immune system
  • Aids in lymphatic drainage
  • Excellent anti-cellulite treatment
  • Helps rid the body of toxins
  • Can help even muscle tone and redistribute fat deposits
Dry brushing is a great treatment to offer when the seasons are transitioning, since the skin is sensitive to environmental changes. Dry brushing is performed with your choice of a number of tools: loofahs, sisal, "paint" brushes, body brushes, exfoliating gloves, and more.

Check out the video below to view the technique, as well as some of the benefits of adding dry brushing to your menu:

For under $2, you can easily incorporate this new treatment into your offerings and start wowing your clients! Plus, since results are best when the skin is dry brushed on a regular basis, you can boost your revenue by retailing dry brushes or gloves to your clients so they can continue their treatments at home!
