Dry Shampoo 101

In today's fast paced world, everyone is constantly on the look out for convenience and quickness, especially when it comes to looking good. Who has time these days to blow dry their hair in the morning anymore? I most certainly do not, and I'm sure most of your clients would agree!

This is where dry shampoo comes in! Did you know that this amazing, super trendy product has actually been around for centuries? According to an article I read, sometime around the late 15th century, the first historical reference of dry shampoo was used when people in Asia were putting clay powder on their head. Here in the states, dry shampoo was during the late 1700s and early 1800s when ground starches were used to color and deodorize the wigs of our forefathers. Who ever would have guessed?!

But what exactly is this glorious and apparently historically monumental product?!

Dry shampoo is basically any type of product that is applied to one's head to rid the scalp of dirt and odor without using water. It's magic in my eyes, and as an avid user, I would most certainly recommend you have your salon fully stocked for your clients.

We have a great dry shampoo called Perk Up by Amika Obliphica that I absolutely love! It's an ultralight formula made with buckthorn berry extract which helps repair split ends and strengthen and nourish hair for a shiny, smooth finish. It's great for all hair types - even your clients with color treated hair! All they need to do is spray it in their roots, brush it in, and style. The lively and colorful packaging will pop out on your retail stand as well. Prolong your client's blowouts by encouraging them to try out this product, and I promise you they'll be hooked!

Coachella 2015 Beauty Survival Guide

Attending Coachella 2015? No?! There's a good chance at least a couple of your clients are, especially on the West Coast. The season's hottest music festival started this past weekend in the California desert, and with one more weekend to go, help your clients be festival ready with some beauty essentials we have here at Pure Spa Direct - all great for retailing!

Hair

The pastel color hair trend was a huge hit at Coachella this past weekend, and it doesn't look like it's fading away anytime soon. Supply your salon with ColorSmash, a great temporary hair chalk available in a variety of colors, and it washes out after one rinse.. perfect for your clients who want the trend without the commitment.

With the heat of the desert, your clients are definitely going to need to tie back their hair, at least at some point throughout the day. We just got in new hair products from a brand we love called Dye-Ties in a variety of colors and collections! The Rock Star Collection is perfect for Coachella, and a fun way for your clients to add in extra style

I am personally a huge fan of dry shampoo, as it truly does work wonders to those who don't wash their hair everyday. We just got in Obliphica Perk Up Dry Shampoo by Amika that your Coachella clients will definitely put to good use this weekend! No washing necessary - just have them spray into their roots and finger comb it through their hair. Perfect for quick volume and shape without the buildup - or shower! :)

Skin

Help your clients protect their skin from the strong desert sun with the utmost essential item - sunscreen! We love this all natural Zinc-Oxide Sunblock from Burn Out, as it's made without harsh chemicals, biodegradable, and good for your clients. With an SPF of 32, your clients won't have to worry about being outside all day looking for shade. They can enjoy this outdoor festival in confidence without being burned.

Coachella is a weekend long festival, and the last thing anyone is thinking about is being clean. It's all about the music, right?! ...not so much! With your clients walking around the desert, there is most certainly going to be a lot of dust, and the heat is definitely hot. Our Sluffwipes are great for a quick and easy way to clean off dirt and exfoliate the skin! Consider it an on the go shower if you will, and great for travelling. Your clients will thank you for introducing them to this conveniently necessary piece of cloth!

Extend The Life Of Color Treated Hair

Keeping color treated hair from becoming dull and faded can definitely be a challenge. But, you as the colorist, can educate your clients on proper maintenance to keep their color looking fresh until their next session with you. There's a great product I have been hearing about by Goldwell®. It is the Goldwell® Dualsenses Color Lock Serum, and it can prolong color retention for up to 22 shampoos! It is used directly after coloring and is formulated with ColorChromaComplex, which instantly locks in color after the application.

Although we don't carry this item at the moment, check out some of these tips on making color last:

Shampooing - Advise your client  not to shampoo their hair for at least 24 hours after the application. (Use warm water, not hot!) This will allow the dye to fully set in each strand. Also, shampooing too often will reduce the life of the color because it strips away the natural oils that protect the dye. Every other day at most is ideal. You can also retail dry shampoo to your clients for this!

Color hair one shade darker than desired color to offset fading.

Avoid Sulfates and Sodium Chloride - It is believed by some hair experts that sulfates may strip the hair, which will turn the color dull. Your client should stick with sulfate free products and products designed for color-treated hair.

Hats! - Your clients may not know that along with protecting your skin from UV Rays, your hair color will also benefit from protection. UV Rays can fade the color of chemically-treated hair! So advise your clients that when they are in the sun for prolonged periods of time, its best to cover up!

Limit Heat Styling - Excessive heat styling can fade color treated hair. If heat styling is a must, use a cooler setting when using a blow dryer or flat iron.

When hair is shiny, it can mask a dull color. Offer a gloss treatment to your clients in between coloring sessions.

Filling your clients in on these tips will keep them coming back to you time after time for all their coloring needs!
