Be Memorable!

Do your clients refer to you for one specific reason aside from, "the place I get my facials"?

Do they refer to you as "XYZ, they have this amazing Caviar Facial that is unlike any other!?

Big difference there. Do you have a signature? If you do, what sets it apart from anything they can get down the block, or next town over?

Be the place that smells like warm vanilla when you walk in, that offers a signature Cinnamon & Clove scrub in the winter, that is to die for!

Be the massage therapist who not only gives a phenomenal massage, but offers a delicious smelling butter rum hand and foot treatment during the winter!

You can have a year round signature, seasonal or whatever works best for your style - just don't forget to see what's new, and how your competition is evolving.

Body Workers: Clients With Chronic Pain

If you're a body worker, is the bread and butter of your business clients with chronic pain or injury? If so, do you offer massage add ons or a variety of techniques to choose from?

Tiered services other than hot stone and/or aromatherapy seem to be something seasoned body workers shy away from. While making your hour long service a better value than the half hour one, what other ways are you maximizing your profit potential?

For clients with chronic pain, not only can the variety keep them coming back, the value of choice and additional relief may gain their loyalty.

So what to offer? If you like to test the water before jumping in, start small. A small investment with solid returns sounds like a good place to start right? Check out Eco Fin. This all natural hydrating treatment is an alternative to paraffin. Many people with chronic pain have had, or are at least familiar with paraffin (especially clients who went through physical therapy for an injury), making it an easy conversation. The starter kit is all you need to test the waters. At $1.60 per treatment cost, if you only offered the service for $10.00, you don't need a calculator to see how profitable it is!

For those who run full speed and cannon ball in, how about cupping? Phenomenal for chronic pain, professional and Olympic athletes go for treatments regularly to improve and recover. Cupping has been shown to help release adhesions, scar tissue, relax muscles in spasm, decrease trigger point pain, lymphatic drainage, decrease tissue changes and inflammation.

Give us a call, send an email ( to reach me directly), or come find us on live chat for more ideas and ways to ease your clients pain and maximize profit potential!

Bring Dry, Lifeless Hands Back to Life! - Importance of Skincare for the Hands

One of the most overlooked parts of the body when it comes to skincare is the hands. While we all focus on facial and body skincare, we often neglect the hands. The hands are the one body part that is exposed the most to the sun and harsh climates - almost as much as the face. Skincare of the hands is an important part of the overall health of your skin and you'll want to remember treat them just as you would any other part of the body.

In harsh weather conditions, the skin on the hands can become dry and rough. The winter is starting to slowly disappear and this is a great time to offer hand repair treatments. You can offer them as specials and/or add on services also! It is a good idea to recommend at home night treatments to your clients and offer retail items for that as well. Treatment of the hands should include exfoliation, moisturizing, protection and prevention to maintain healthy skin. Keep in mind that it is super important to exfoliate, as the dead skin cells will prevent any moisture treatments from being more effective.

Celebrate National Grapefruit Month in Your Spa!

I realize today is Valentine's Day, the pinnacle of the Month of Love, but did you also know that February is National Grapefruit month?

As I sit here, looking at the winter wonderland we are living in here in NY, I can't help but dreaming about grapefruit - they remind me of summer!

Grapefruit is a fantastic ingredient to work into your treatment menu, especially in winter, as we discussed in last week's Citrus blog. Infuse your spa menu with Grapefruit, and your clients will feel happy and refreshed.

Some of our favorite Grapefruit Products to easily work into your menu:

Another fun way to celebrate National Grapefruit month is to offer your clients Grapefruit cocktails with their services! Offer "Happy Hour" services to attract new business during slow hours.

Enjoy your new Grapefruit-infused menu!

Add Some Spice to Your Fall Menu - Warm Apple Parafffin

Warm paraffin treatments are a great service to offer this time of year. Anything warming will sound very appealing to your clients during the colder months. Therabath Pro Paraffin treatments will relieve aches and pains and will soften and moisturize the skin from the inside out!

The Warm Apple Spice Paraffin is perfect for your fall/winter spa menu. It is a delectable scent of juicy apples, fresh spices and a hint of pear that I am sure your clients will love! It is also infused with therapeutic essential oils of clove and cinnamon.

How it works:
A paraffin wax spa takes advantage of paraffin's heat-retaining capacity in a simple process called heat transfer. Basically, as a liquid, the paraffin is able to retain more heat and when a hand or foot is dipped into it, it turns solid and the heat is delivered straight to the core of the area.

Hand Treatments:

  1. Cleanse hands or use Sanitizing Spray
  2. Apply Intensive Hydrating Cream.
  3. Spread fingers slightly, hold hand flat and slowly immerse hand into paraffin; removing hand immediately.
  4. Wait 5 seconds allowing the parafin "shine" to go away indicating the wax is dry.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to make a warm "glove" . Dip 3 times - for light therapy and skin moisturiizing. Dip 5-15 times - intense therapy. The more layers of paraffin, the longer the more heat and length of therapy.
  6. Cover hand with plastic mitt liner bag and plush mitt
  7. After 5-30 minutes, remove mitt, move hands and fingers to loosen paraffin, removing it in liner bag.
  8. Discard used paraffin.

Foot Treatments:

  1. Cleanse feet with Sanitizing Spray. Rub in.
  2. Apply Intensive Hydrating Cream
  3. Slowly immerse foot into paraffin and remove. ( feet are more sensitive to heat than hands – dip only portion of the foot on first dip, and entire foot on subsequent dips)
  4. Wait 5-7 seconds, repeat 3, remove.
  5. Repeat 3-5 times
  6. Cover foot with plastic liner bag and terry boot
  7. After 10 minutes, remove boot, move foot and toes to loosen paraffin and remove it in liner bag
  8. Discard used paraffin

Tips for Best Results:

  • The more layers of paraffin, the easier it is to remove.
  • If the area to be treated has a lot of hair, apply additional layers of paraffin. (Paraffin will not remove hair.)
  • Dip to the same level each time so that an even amount of paraffin covers the area to be treated and there is a thick edge to grasp when removing the paraffin.
  • To build up thicker layers, wait a few seconds (until the shine goes away) in between dips.
  • Don’t flex your fingers or break the “glove” of paraffin in between dips.
  • Keep the paraffin in place for 10 to 15 minutes. (The more layers, the longer the heat lasts, and an insulated mitt or boot will cause the heat to last even longer.) Because you will grow accustomed to the heat, it may seem like the heat is gone before it actually is.
  • Before applying paraffin with a brush, preheat the brush by letting it sit in the Therabath Pro for five minutes

Eco-fin. An Environment Friendly Alternative To Paraffin Treatments!

Want to know a great, healthy way to get soft skin, all while being friendly to the environment?

Eco-fin Paraffin Alternative is the answer! Eco-fin is a natural eco-friendly alternative to popular paraffin treatments. It is made with 100% natural plant-based emollients and pure essential oils. It contains no petroleum, artificial dyes, or synthetic fragrances. Eco-friendly, people-friendly, and biodegradable. Eco-fin is a healthy and nourishing treatment that leaves your skin soft without harming the environment. It is a rich blend of palm, soy, jojoba, organic oils, shea butter, vitamin E and essential oils. Another great perk to this product: preparing and clean up are super easy!

Did I also mention they smell great?! Your client will love choosing from these amazing scents:

Happy: Raspberry-Grapefruit Blend
Muse: Cinnamon-Ginger Blend
Escape: Peppermint Essence
Shangri-La: Jasmine-Sandlewood Blend
Pleasure: Chocolate Essence
Dream: Vanilla Essence
Reverie: Lavender-Vanilla Blend
Retreat: Coconut-Pineapple Blend
Be Well: Green Tea-Aloe Blend
Purity: Unscented

Instructions for an Eco-fin treatment:

  • Drop the selected Eco-Fin Cube into the prepared Eco-Sleeve.
  • Roll the sleeve over itself into a tidy roll.
  • *Note: For convenience, you can order extra Eco-Sleeves for Mitts and Eco-Sleeves for Booties and prepare several rolls ahead of time. They can be kept warm in your hot towel cabi, or you can warm the liner only in the microwave for approximately 30 seconds before inserting it into the sleeve. Use caution when using microwaves as they vary and may require less heating time. Overheating can melt the plastic liners.
  • If you don’t have a warmed sleeve already prepared, warm the liner only in the microwave for 30 seconds before inserting the Eco-Fin cube into the sleeve.
  • Unroll the Eco-Sleeve and slide it onto guest’s hand or foot. Help disperse the rich emulsion evenly by massaging over the hands or feet.
  • Place warm herbal or electric mitts/booties onto the hands or feet.
  • Remove mitts/booties and liners after 10 to 15 minutes and massage remaining emulsion into hands and forearms or feet and legs. Discard used liners and reuse sleeves/herbal mitts & booties.

Also, this is a great, low cost add-on for any spa/salon treatments you offer! Based on a hand treatment using 1 cube per hand, it's less then $1.60 per treatment!

Restore Your Paraffin Wax with Paraffin Oil

Winter may be winding down, but paraffin treatments seem to have been actually building in momentum rather than lessening. We have clients placing daily orders for large quantities of new waxes, so I wanted to offer you a trick to help your paraffin last longer, smell better and, therefore, get more bang for your buck.

When the viscosity of paraffin starts to thicken, you begin to use more product than what is necessary per treatment. A simple way to ensure that the wax stays flexibile, soft and at the optimum melting consistency is by adding Paraffin Oil to your wax. A little goes a long way in making sure your paraffin wax stays perfectly supple! In addition, adding scented paraffin oil can enhance the aromatic experience for your clients.

Here are the Paraffin Oil Scents that we carry:
  1. Peach
  2. Cucumber - Cucumber & Thyme
  3. Papaya - Papaya & Green Tea
  4. Blue Ocean Rain - Peppermint & Aloe Vera
  5. Blossom - Sandalwood
  6. Rosemary - Rosemary & Ylang Ylang
  7. Tea Tree - Tea Tree & Grapefruit
  8. Peach - Peach & Lemongrass
  9. Lavender - Lavender & Chamomile
  10. Unscented
What is your favorite type of paraffin and what scent do your clients prefer?

Eco-Fin Paraffin Alternative

Our shipping department has noticed sweet and delicious aromas in the air lately.  We have been shipping lots of ECO-FIN Paraffin alternative to spas and this stuff smells terrific!  The Raspberry Grapefruit and Chocolate Essence are my favorites.  Though I have never been lucky enough to use Eco-Fin (yet), I can easily see why spas love this product. They come packaged in these cool and convenient little ice cube trays with several different flavors that smell so darn good!  The Customer Service team tells me this is a must buy for the paraffin people... why? I have no idea... I'm just a shipping guy! See our great Eco-Fin selection HERE!

Paraffin Wax: Affordable Luxury

Hey everyone! Adrienne here with your weekly guide to fantastic spa and salon products and suggestions. My mission is to help you, the business owner, increase your profits, achieve your business goals, and expand your business, all the while ensuring that your clients are happy and excited to come back for more.

Recommendation of the Week: Paraffin!

Now that the majority of the country is in the thick of winter, it is time to break out those paraffin machines! The fact of the matter is, 99.99% of consumers out there love a paraffin dip. Even though it is typically seen as a luxurious service offered by only the high-end spas, paraffin treatments can cost only pennies per treatment. In addition to being cost-effective, paraffin will also help enhance the spa experience for your clients. The mere act of applying the warm and sultry smooth wax to dry, achy hands and feet will automatically soothe and relax your customers. After 15 minutes, their skin will be significantly smoother as well.

Pure Spa Direct offers multiple brands of Paraffin, one of my personal favorites being the Amber Paraffin. It is tripled filtered to ensure its purity and comes in a variety of scents and colors, or lack thereof. There also a few products that can help increase the effectiveness of a treatment:

~Apply Algae Oil to the skin prior to the paraffin so as to ensure more efficient absorption of moisture.
~Wrap hands and feet in plastic mitts, then cover them with heated mittens and booties. This will extend the treatment and increase moisture absorption.

If you already offer this service, consider doing a promotion of Free Paraffin Applications with a chargeable upgrade to the heated mitts and booties. If you do not currently offer this service, consider adding paraffin to your menu - Your customers and your Bottom Line will thank you!
